章節 42: Chapter 42

It was a great place to spend time with a beautiful woman in a simple café that was almost empty at the time.

We didn't bother to remove our costumes. Instead, we gave autographs and took selfies with anyone who wanted.

The only condition was that the videos and photos would only be put online after we were gone.

I think the café will soon see more visitors when they hang up the photo of me and Starlight on the wall.

"And here are the donuts!"

The waitress cheerfully placed the plates in front of us, showing great enthusiasm after we arrived at the café.

"Enjoy your meal!"

"She's definitely a fan of ours."

Annie whispered to me, taking a sip of coffee.

"What? Really? I thought she was just very attentive, especially after she walked by for the tenth time, asking if we needed anything."

I rolled my eyes, showing my attitude towards the situation.

"You're too harsh on her. It's not every day that Homelander comes into an ordinary café."

"It's not nice to feel like the object of someone's dirty fantasies when you can literally see it in their eyes."

"I hadn't looked at it from that angle."

Annie blushed slightly but still picked up a sweet treat and took a bite.

She moaned with pleasure, closing her eyes.

Seeing my surprised look, she carefully placed the donut back, licking her lips.

"What?"

"You eat that donut so appetizingly... if I had seen it in an advertisement, I would have bought it without a second thought."

"Thank you... Was that a compliment?"

"Definitely not a complaint."

I smirked, trying a similar pastry.

After thoroughly tasting it, I decided to give my verdict.

"No, it's just an ordinary donut. It's not bad, but a bit too sweet."

"We weren't allowed sweets at home, and Mom closely watched that. But Dad... he loved to break that rule behind her back. Usually, he'd buy me donuts with chocolate glaze."

"Sounds like he was a good father."

"Yes, he was."

She pondered, taking a sip of fresh coffee.

"Have you seen Stormfront's address online?"

"I don't follow her on social media."

"Then you'll be interested in this."

Annie stated, handing me her phone.

With a skeptical expression on my face, I looked at the smartphone screen.

As soon as one issue was resolved, another one appeared. A video message from Stormfront was shown on the screen.

"Are we just going to wait for someone to die?! I'm already tired of shouting about this to Vought! And what are they doing to prevent attacks? Nothing! Let's try to get through to them. Tomorrow, let's gather at Vought Square."

After watching the video, I couldn't understand how she was allowed to say such things.

Usually, these kinds of attempts are suppressed so the person who started them doesn't make a mess.

However, I could understand the public's interest. It's not every day you see something like this.

Apparently, Vought is okay with it.

"What do you think?"

"I'm not yet sure what Stan Edgar is trying to achieve by creating opposition within the company."

"So Stormfront is doing everything on the CEO's orders?"

She furrowed her brow.

"Exactly. He might be trying to make a controlled enemy."

I took a sip from my cup, giving my companion time to process what was happening.

"He's a smart man. He wouldn't have risen to such a position if it were not."

"And I believed her."

Annie muttered with frustration, probably feeling dumber than she actually was.

"Almost everyone believed her. You could only pick out a few details that only a few people know."

I pointed out the obvious fact.

"That doesn't change the fact that she's getting away with everything."

"Vought's support is no joke; I'd be more surprised if she failed."

The conversation was interrupted by the persistent ringing of my smartphone, with Stillwell's name flashing on the screen.

Sighing, I answered the call, bringing the phone to my ear.

"Urgently to the tower."

As soon as these words were spoken, she audaciously hung up.

I looked at the screen in confusion, then shifted my gaze to the intrigued Starlight.

"I'm afraid I have to leave your company."

I forced a smile, and she nodded seriously.

"I understand."

"Goodbye, Starlight."

"Definitely, John."

She winked at me, whispering my name.

I got up from the table and headed for the exit.

After the short, familiar flight, I was already on the right floor.

I didn't wait for the elevator and used the stairs.

Therefore, Stillwell's office door opened to show a tense woman watching TV.

I involuntarily joined her, watching the chaos happen live.

There were angry protesters raising flags, throwing rocks, and carrying sticks in front of the U.S. embassy.

There are no casualties yet, but it was definitely only a matter of time.

"You need to fly there."

She finally spoke, drawing my attention.

"And what about the army if they can't disperse them?"

"Right now, they don't have available personnel who can get there in such a short time. The situation is measured in minutes."

"It's the army, isn't there anyone available?"

"I don't know all the details, but things are already heated there. They can't spare people."

Madelyn sighed, giving in to her emotions.

"The whole world is watching this. The situation is deteriorating. The only person who can resolve this quickly is standing in front of me and trying to avoid his duties."

"Fine, what do I need to do?"

I conceded, given the arguments.

"Fly there and put an end to this mess. Ideally, disperse the crowd. If not possible, hold them off until the military arrives. The main thing is to avoid casualties."

"Understood."

I flew out of the building, eager to wrap this up quickly.

There would be no problem scaring everyone since everyone knew about my abilities.

Afterward, I could go home because shooting would begin in a few days, and I would be on set all day, not having time for Ryan.

With a sonic boom, I landed on one knee right in front of the embassy, quieting the rioters.

Standing up, I carefully surveyed their worried faces.

It was clear they recognized me and understood that their only option now was to disperse.

I smirked and looked at the embassy itself which had broken windows.

The gates were only slightly damaged, and they hadn't been knocked down in those few minutes.

"Okay, the fun's over. You can all go home now."

I turned to the crowd and clapped my hands.

The people flinched but didn't move an inch. They were clearly serious when they came here.

The man in front of me shouted something threatening, and the rest echoed him.

Honestly, I didn't understand what they were saying in their language.

Therefore, I had no idea what the gathered people's purpose was.

I could only watch them with a skeptical gaze. I took a step forward for amusement, causing a group to step back.

The fear in their eyes was noticeable.

The man who had been yelling clenched his fist when I smiled, but he didn't want to fight.

No.

He shouted something in his language again, including a word I recognized.

The word "Allah" was familiar to me, allowing me to make a rough guess as to why they were here.

He was actively helping me by pointing at me and saying the same thing over and over.

The crowd joined in without question.

Religion... it became clear to me.

What else?

Of course, it all revolves around religion, and Compound V is to blame.

They must be accusing me of being a false god created by the devil or someone else.

It's all so cliché.

I sighed while rolling my eyes at the primitiveness of their thinking because arguing with them was pointless.

Since I couldn't disperse them without using force, I'd have to wait for the military.

This certainly spoiled my mood.

"I'm so fed up with this."

I frowned, looking at the spitting, ranting rioters who had decided to take on a country with nuclear weapons.

These cowardly insects were only capable of shouting and throwing tantrums.

As soon as someone stronger appeared, all their bravery and arrogance vanished.

Their faces filled me with disgust and contempt, like looking at a vile creature.

The noise they made was doubly irritating.

One of them seemed to regain enough spirit to throw a rock at me.

Strangely enough, it hit its mark.

"I won't let this go, you brazen monkey."

I hissed through clenched teeth and charged at the bold one, easily pushing through the crowd.

Soon after, I reached the grinning fool who boldly stared back at me.

The people crowded around and moved aside to get a better view.

I got angrier when I realized he knew the cameras were recording everything.

I clenched my hand into a fist, and a searing hatred ignited in my chest, demanding immediate release.

"AAAAAAA!!!"

A crazy woman screamed loud enough to drown out everything else as my fist hit his mouth.

The lower jaw was simply ripped from his face, splattering blood.

I saw the shock on the face of this scum who was just starting to realize what had happened.

The looks of these stupid people who hadn't taken the chance to just leave showed fear.

The body of the bastard fell to the ground, soaking it with blood. He would live, but he wouldn't be able to handle solid food.

A smile appeared on my face as I imagined the scene.

However, it didn't end there.

This crowd was as brainless as the trash lying on the ground.

They followed his lead and began throwing rocks at me despite what they had just witnessed.

I was now even more convinced that I was dealing with biological waste that didn't deserve to live.

My eyes flared with bright red light, and the heat vision ruthlessly cut through their bodies with sizzling sounds.

The screams of these animals did not concern me, and my anger seemed to drown out everything else.

The red beam sliced through their bodies so effortlessly that I almost regretted their swift deaths.

A few seconds later, I stood in the middle of a circle of corpses in disgust.

I pushed off the ground with my feet, and my body rose a few meters to take in the full scene.

Divine retribution had struck the filthy creatures who thought they could boss me around.

I was satisfied with my work, but my rage still refused to die down, as if fueled by something.

This realization immediately made me cautious, and I felt something.

It was as if something was penetrating my mind, and I only noticed it now without distractions.

I instinctively turned toward one of the rooftops where a man was standing, intently watching me.

As soon as our eyes met, genuine fear reflected in his gaze.

The rage quickly receded, allowing me to think clearly.

"How dare you?!"

My shout made the windows tremble and the car alarms nearby go off.

Now, I was truly furious.

He tried to flee, heading towards a stairway, but my body blocked his path, and my eyes were ready to burn a hole through him at any moment.

He backed away but still tried to use his powers on me again.

I could feel his presence and the fear he was projecting, but he had missed one thing that I now knew about him.

"Not this time, bastard."

With sheer willpower, I expelled him from my mind, causing him to scream and clutch his head.

Taking pity on him, I placed my palms over his hands to help him with this difficult task.

I liked every crack that showed up in his head, enjoyed his screams, and kept putting pressure on him.

Until his head burst, splattering bits of his brain onto my face.

I was now really satisfied.
