"Lin, you're incredible now. Our campus gate might soon be overrun by scouts!"
Marcus Camby looked at Lin Tianhui with a playful smirk and a hint of envy.
"Come on, Camby, don't tease me. Your basketball market isn't any worse than mine!"
Lin Tianhui responded modestly. As the best defensive player in the country, Marcus Camby was also a top prospect in this year's draft. Many teams had shown interest in him, and he was expected to be a top-three pick, if not the number one pick.
Lin's emergence had slightly diminished Camby's chances of being the top pick, but he was still a highly sought-after prospect. Camby's frame protection and potential for growth made him a valuable asset.
"Seriously, Lin, since you're entering this draft, is there a team you particularly want to join?"
Camby's question had been on his mind for a while. Although they were teammates now, the NBA would be a different arena where they would be rivals. Despite their close bond, the reality of the draft meant they might end up on separate teams.
Lin pondered the question. "To be honest, I haven't given it much thought, but I might lean towards a Western team."
"Is it because of Michael Jordan?"
Camby's response was immediate.
"Yes, it's partly because of him. I want to face him in the finals and come out on top, so I'm inclined towards a Western team!"
Camby was momentarily stunned. Lin's confidence was remarkable. While the idea of beating Jordan in the finals might seem like a dream to some, Lin had a way of making such ambitions seem achievable.
"But then again, in the draft, the teams choose the players. We can only go where we're picked, and we can't control it."
Lin Tianhui didn't like the idea of being at the mercy of others. He was confident in his abilities and believed he could excel anywhere. Yet, he preferred to be proactive rather than reactive. Still, players in the lottery had more protection and chances, so he was hopeful that any team that picked him would see his potential.
"Let's focus on what's ahead. Our next opponent is Antoine Walker. He's a tough competitor, and it won't be easy to deal with him!"
Camby shifted the focus to the upcoming NCAA final. Their opponent was the University of Kentucky, a traditional powerhouse and one of the favorites since the round of 64.
Antoine Walker, the standout player for Kentucky, was an all-around forward capable of playing multiple positions. His versatility made Kentucky a formidable opponent, adding complexity to the defense for Massachusetts.
"Since the Sweet 16, no team is weak. But I still believe it's not a problem. There's only one championship, and we're here to win it!"
Camby was invigorated by Lin's confidence. Having both of them as top prospects in the draft, Camby realized, meant their team had a strong chance of success.
"With us leading the team, winning the championship seems very achievable. This feeling is really exciting!"
Camby was thrilled at the prospect of bringing the first championship to the University of Massachusetts. The thought of achieving such a milestone with Lin Tianhui by his side gave him an extra boost of confidence.
