If Lin Jiu knew what Lu Jin was thinking, he'd say he was overthinking it. Zhang Lingyu's Water Thunder was unrestrained, free-flowing like mercury, seeping into every crack, thick and murky. It was difficult for Lin Jiu to launch effective attacks with his sword and, while constantly trying to weaken him, Lin Jiu had to seize the right moment to end the fight the way he did.
If his opponent had been Lu Linglong, who practiced life and Death at Quanzhen Sect and could use her soul to fight against Lin Jiu? He'd just slap her back. If she engaged in close combat? After taking a full-force kick from Lin Jiu, her fate would be worse than being struck by the Yin Thunder!
"How do you feel, losing without even getting to use many of your techniques?"
The Old Celestial Master asked Zhang Lingyu with a smile.
Zhang Lingyu thought for a moment before replying, "I felt like I was a sieve in front of him, full of holes."
"Who doesn't have flaws? Even your master, I, have plenty of flaws!"
The Old Celestial Master chuckled.
"Yes, but I couldn't grasp his flaws. And with how ruthless and decisive he is, I couldn't even be sure that the flaws I saw weren't ones he showed on purpose."
Zhang Lingyu realized many of his shortcomings during this brief battle.
"Hahaha, Lingyu, although you are among the best among young Outcast, compared to someone like him, you're no different from a flower in a greenhouse. I'll make sure you get some real-world experience soon!"
The Old Celestial Master laughed heartily.
Zhang Lingyu nodded, not yet realizing that it wouldn't be long before he understood exactly what his master meant by those words.
The next morning.
Though some Outcast had already left the mountain, the audience seats were still packed for the finals.
Zhang Chulan arrived at the arena early in the morning, trying to clear his mind of distractions like Feng Baobao had taught him, focusing solely on the critical battle ahead. In truth, he wasn't confident at all, but at this point, it would be disrespectful to all the opponents he had eliminated if he didn't give it his all.
As the match time approached, a disinterested-looking Lin Jiu appeared opposite Zhang Chulan.
He didn't even want to participate in the finals and had gone to the Old Celestial Master early in the morning to claim his task rewards.
Old Celestial Master: "Hey, I only said to go easy on him, not to forfeit entirely!"
Lin Jiu: "Isn't it the same thing?"
Old Celestial Master: "How could it possibly be the same! People might think I did something to you to let Zhang Chulan win!"
Lin Jiu: "Isn't that exactly what's happening?"
Old Celestial Master: "…"
Lin Jiu: "You just want me to be a sparring partner for your precious disciple, right?"
Old Celestial Master: "Haha, you understand me, don't you, Leader Red! Please, just help me out this once…"
Lin Jiu sighed and agreed. Everyone, take note—I, Lin Jiu, am proving that I'm actually a good person. I'm not some cold-blooded killer or someone who does everything for personal gain. I do have a heart!
Back to the arena.
"Chulan, you seem pretty nervous."
"Brother Red, isn't that obvious? I couldn't even handle Zhang Lingyu, and you took him down in a few moves. How could I not be nervous?"
Zhang Chulan rolled his eyes.
"Don't worry, I've already been paid off by your grandmaster. I didn't even want to come, but your grandmaster insisted I beat you up. So just show me what you've got!"
Lin Jiu had decided to treat this as an opportunity to gain some combat experience and took the chance to scan Zhang Chulan's stats.

"… Holy crap, Grandpa is amazing!"
Zhang Chulan's face lit up with excitement.
"Brother Red, don't mind me then!
Heaven and Earth, mysterious sect, origin of all Qi.
Cultivating for countless eons, my divine powers manifest.
Within and beyond the three realms, only the Dao reigns supreme.
My body is encased in golden light, shining upon me.
Invisible to the eye, inaudible to the ear.
Encompassing heaven and earth, nourishing all life.
Recite it ten thousand times, the body will radiate light…"
Zhang Chulan chanted the Golden Light Mantra, encasing himself in golden light, and charged toward Lin Jiu. He had watched Lin Jiu fight before but had never faced him directly. Oddly enough, he didn't feel any pressure from Lin Jiu.
After his fight with Feng Baobao, Zhang Chulan was chased by the crowd and missed seeing Zhang Lingyu's fight. He didn't know that Zhang Lingyu hadn't even used the Golden Light Mantra and had gone straight to using Water Thunder. Soon, he would know why.
Feeling confident, Zhang Chulan, now covered in golden light, rushed at Lin Jiu, nearly making Lin Jiu laugh. Lin Jiu casually countered with a kick, landing it directly on Zhang Chulan's golden light.
There was no way Zhang Chulan could keep up with Lin Jiu's speed, and he couldn't gather his golden light to the spot where Lin Jiu's kick landed in time. As a result, the golden light barrier that had held up against Zhang Lingyu shattered instantly under Lin Jiu's kick.
Zhang Chulan was sent flying back to where he started, now with traces of blood on his lips.
"Damn, Brother Red, weren't you supposed to go easy on me?"
Zhang Chulan asked, frustrated.
"This is me going easy."
Lin Jiu retorted. If he hadn't gone easy, it wouldn't have just been a bit of blood. He also wouldn't be standing here chatting with Zhang Chulan now.
Seizing the moment while Lin Jiu was talking, Zhang Chulan suddenly raised his hand.
"Yang Five Thunder Technique – Palm Thunder!"
In an instant, a flash of white light illuminated the entire arena, making the nearby spectators squint.
"No way!"
Zhang Chulan muttered in disbelief as the white light dissipated, revealing Lin Jiu completely unharmed. At this point, Zhang Chulan was beginning to lose the will to fight.
As a close-combat Hunter, what makes their opponents feel most threatened? Strength? Agility? No. It's their reaction speed, dynamic vision, and nerve reflexes—abilities that allow them to push their techniques to the limit.
Lin Jiu had never missed a chance to improve these abilities. He had already caught Zhang Chulan's slight movement when he started to raise his hand and was prepared for it. Otherwise, the speed of the thunder technique might have hit him.
"Brother Red, I've got a little trick that lasts about five minutes. Be careful… Thunder Flash!"
Using his thunder technique to stimulate his meridians, Zhang Chulan's speed dramatically increased, approaching Lin Jiu's level.
"Full-power Thunder Flash membership activated!"
Realizing he still wasn't quite fast enough, Zhang Chulan decisively activated his full-power mode.
Lin Jiu's eyes narrowed. With full-power mode, Zhang Chulan's speed exceeded his by a little. Just as Zhang Chulan's hand, surrounded by white electric arcs, was about to strike him, Lin Jiu slightly sidestepped. He grabbed Zhang Chulan's wrist with one hand and supported his triceps with the other, pulling him up and slamming him to the ground.
The white electric arcs surrounding Zhang Chulan dissipated a bit, and the slam disrupted the flow of Qi inside his body.
