Layla's point of view
I stepped out of my room an hour later and made my way towards the town. The whole town respected us like we were the royals, and it made a lot of sense to me. One of us would definitely end up being the Luna of our pack, so we were important people. As I walked along the street, I enjoyed the attention that came with it.
As soon as I got back home, I went into the house to get myself settled in, knowing fully well that mother might be out. Mother was always on the field, cutting herbs and rare leaves she knew best and bringing them home to make different concoctions.
I went into my room to get settled, but I felt impatient and decided to go back to the palace and return another day. As I was about to step out, I met my mom coming into the house.
"Layla, are you here today?".
She asked me as I smiled and responded, "Yes, mom, but I came for a different reason, which I believe you will have answers to" I said as I went back into the living room and sat down.
Every family has a role they play in a community, so definitely, practicing magic and being a werewolf wasn't really appreciated, so that's why mom always isolated herself from people, except for immediate family members.
"OK, honey, can you tell me what it is that bothers you so much that you left the palace when you have just less than a month to become the next Luna of our great kingdom and make my dream come true?".
I sat down and looked at her keenly.
"I had a dream recently, and I need you to help me look into it to see if I am missing something or something that needs to be done fast," She quickly placed down all that she had in her hands on the table in the sitting room.
I quickly narrated what happened in the dream to her and she told me precisely what I needed to hear.
I went back to the palace and tried to settle down. Since the rest of the day was a free day for us, we got to do whatever we wished to do for ourselves. I went back to my room to avoid the rest of the maidens.
All they do is stare at me and do everything like they actually cared for me. But when you leave, they tend to play games with your life right behind you. I am superior to them; I am the next Luna of this kingdom, so there is nothing they do that can affect me.
But not quite long ago, my maid walked into the room and said
"Miss Layla, I greet you. His royal highness has requested the attention of all the maidens around and would like them to join him for lunch. Would you like me to pick out a dress for you?".
My maid asked as she awaited my response.
"Sure, at least I have to look good. I am the next Luna of this kingdom," I said to her as I walked down to the washroom majestically, already seeing myself as the next Luna.
With the assurance from my mother, who has promised to do whatever she can to make sure I become the next Luna and get that good for nothing Jackia out of the way.
She has nothing on me as I am the most beautiful and wanted contestant in all the kingdom.
Many people speak so well of my beauty. I thought about this as my maid pulled the dress that I was putting on to take a fresh bath before I got into the gown my maid had chosen for me. It was a ball gown that complimented my beauty.
The gown was a dark wine-coloured gown that complemented my eyeballs, and I couldn't help but fall more in love with the dress. For this, she took on low-walking shoes as we made our way towards the dining hall. I just hope I get there before anyone else.
I went into the hall to see Jackia already sitting there, right beside Alpha's dad. I walked majestically to the other side and sat down gracefully. She was on the right, and I was on the left.
The alpha's dad noticed my presence as he was indulging Jackia in a conversation when he raised his head.
"Oh, my dear Layla, it's so nice to see you. Please come join me," he said as I walked towards him and sat down close to him and Jackia.
I looked at Jackia through my eyelashes as I saw that she didn't bother giving me any of her attention.
"Your grace, thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to fine-tune with you. We all know such occasions come once in a while.".
I said, smiling and stretching my hands towards him as he pecked it, and I loved it.
"My child, It is traditional for me to spend time with you all and get to know every single one of you. So please be my guest.".
The alpha's dad said and the maidens all started to walk right in one after the other, greeting him as they all settled down. The maid came forward to serve every single one of us, starting with the alpha's dad first, as we all waited for our turn.
We were already halfway into the meal when he decided to indulge us in a little bit of discussion:
"My maidens, please tell me what you all like about this kingdom," he asked as he indulged all the maidens in a conversation.
Glancing at us from time to time, Who will I begin with?" The alpha's dad asked as he looked at Jackia and was about to speak when I said,
"Oh, your grace, I would go first and give them some little tiny ideas on what to say.".
I said innocently, as I didn't want to second-guess Jackia.
"I love the fact that we are all still unified even after so many years that have passed, and even when we know that we are at war, we still love and protect each other."
I said, with a smile on my face.
"But if we love each other so much, why did a lady die recently?" Jackia asked out of the blue, which made me look at her. "Which lady are you talking about?" The alpha's dad asked as Jackia looked at me.
"The lady who was part of the chosen was found dead in the woods today. I heard the rumour from people in the town, and I felt so bad that there was no one there to protect the helpless maiden", Jackia said, with emotions in her voice. Right after that, the lunch didn't last long as the alpha's dad excused himself to go inquire about what Jackia had just revealed to them.
Yet again, I say she always wins every single time, and I hate her for that.
