"Leek?" Farfetch'd poked at the pork with its leek, fascinated by how the meat would collapse and bounce back. It seemed to have found a new toy.
Heath swallowed nervously. Farfetch'd had triggered a long-term mission earlier, the first step of which was to teach it how to make a breakfast crape. Under Heath's guidance, it had shown some progress.
However, after completing the first task, the second one had not been issued, making Heath suspect that his special ability might be broken.
Seeing Farfetch'd's interest in the dish he was about to prepare, Heath had a strange thought. Could Farfetch'd be interested in the meal he was planning? If so, would it trigger another strange task? If it did, Heath would have to consider the financial implications, as pork was much more expensive than vegetables.
With a mix of anticipation and anxiety, Heath pushed his cart to his usual spot. After setting up, he began preparing for the day's business.
Since it was still early and there weren't many customers, Heath decided to make the dish he had in mind. He took out the pork and chopped it into small pieces, setting them aside in a bowl.
Next, Heath brought out his wok. He planned to make braised pork with tofu puffs, a dish from his previous life.
The reason for buying pork was for this dish. Once the wok was hot, Heath added the chopped pork, not needing extra oil as the fat from the meat would suffice.
Heath patiently stir-fried the pork until it turned yellowish and slightly cooked.
"The fact that this world has spices is wonderful," Heath thought as he added the purchased spices into a large pot, set aside the tofu puffs, and then added the stir-fried pork.
He added water, soy sauce, and other seasonings, then covered the pot to let the dish simmer. Meanwhile, he started cooking rice.
"Leek!" Farfetch'd jumped around excitedly, waving its leek. Heath was puzzled; the braised pork wasn't even ready yet. Why was Farfetch'd so excited? The aroma shouldn't have come out yet.

Seeing the familiar prompt, Heath covered his face. As he had feared, Farfetch'd was indeed interested in the braised pork, and the next task was to teach it how to make it.
"This is going to be tough," Heath thought, watching the excited Farfetch'd. It wasn't a problem to let it eat braised pork, but teaching it... Heath imagined his money flying away as he recalled yesterday's expenses.
"Heath, two breakfast crapes with extra egg and leek, please!" Mr. Armin hurried over.
"Of course, special leek, ten coins extra. Do you want both with leek, Mr. Armin?" Heath responded with a genuine smile.
"Yes, both with extra leek and egg." Mr. Armin paid generously and warmed his hands.
Heath skillfully spread the batter, instructing Farfetch'd to watch closely. Although Farfetch'd had learned how to make crapes, its attempts were still lacking.
"Today is the day for getting starter Pokémon, right, Mr. Armin?" Heath chatted as he cooked.
Mr. Armin, an official from the Pokémon League, was responsible for various tasks, including distributing starter Pokémon—Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur—to new trainers. Unlike Ash and his friends who began their journeys with their first Pokémon, wealthier families paid the League for specially bred starters.
"Yes, we started preparing early this morning. Another batch of trainers will embark on their journeys. It feels like watching our own children grow up," Mr. Armin said with a smile.
"Last night, we pre-ordered some excellent Pokémon from Professor Oak. They've already been reserved by some wealthy families in Viridian City," Mr. Armin rubbed his hands together in the chilly morning air.
Heath nodded. Every year, Professor Oak's Pokémon were in high demand. As a renowned trainer and breeder, Oak's Pokémon were of excellent quality, which was why Ash managed to catch many strong Pokémon.
"Mr. Armin, here are your crapes." Heath handed over the crapes and accepted the payment, giving the change to Mr. Armin.
After watching Mr. Armin leave, Heath added the tofu puffs to the pot, leaving the braised pork to simmer.
Heath took out a cardboard sign from his cart and wrote, "Today's Special: Braised Pork with Tofu Puff Rice / 25 League coins per serving," then hung it on his cart.
Heath wasn't sure if people in this world would like this special dish, but he decided to try. If it was popular, he could save money faster.
As daylight broke, Viridian City grew busier, but most people were heading to work or getting ready to pick up their starter Pokémon.
Heath's stall became lively with the increasing foot traffic. Some people inquired about the new dish, but Heath regretfully told them it wasn't ready yet.
As time passed, the aroma of braised pork filled the air, causing many passersby to salivate.
