章節 9: Rising Power

"Finally got rid of those people. If it weren't for the 600 gold coins still pending, I wouldn't have gone through all that trouble."

Ron sighed heavily after seeing them off, finally having a moment to check the benefits from Power Loan.

[Power Loan earnings: 280 Strength. This can be converted into personal Strength or Skill Points.

Conversion rates for Skill Points:

First Sub-Talent: 1 Skill Point per 15 Strength.

Second Sub-Talent: 1 Skill Point per 50 Strength.

Each additional talent increases the required Strength by 35, up to a maximum of 100.

Only Sub-Talents can convert Strength into Skill Points; for the Main Talent, Qi Force is required. The conversion rate for Qi Force will be unlocked upon awakening.]

"280 Strength!" Ron exclaimed.

"If I calculate based on Power Loan's maximum 35% return rate, that means Woris had around 800 Strength."

"I remember back on Earth, the world champion weightlifter could lift just over 200 kilograms, which was already impressive. But Woris had 800 Strength—can he even be considered human?"

Ron was genuinely shocked by the return from this battle, but after thinking about it, in a world of the extraordinary, greater strength shouldn't be surprising.

"With 280 Strength, I can exchange it for quite a few Skill Points. Let me do the math. The first Sub-Talent requires only 15 Strength to exchange for 1 Skill Point. And my first Sub-Talent only needs 9 Skill Points to max out, which means I need just 135 Strength."

With that, Ron quickly exchanged 9 Skill Points, putting them all into his Sword Specialization.

[Counterattack Block]: Triggered Skill

Every time you successfully block, you can launch a quick counterattack.

Each level up increases the counterattack's power by 5%.

Current Level: 5.

[Emissary of the Sword]: Passive Skill

The sword has become an extension of your body, a conscious soul.

Any sword within a 3-meter radius will respond to your summons.

Your perception, reflexes, eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell all increase by one level.

Each level up increases the summon radius by 1 meter and enhances your sensory abilities by one grade.

Current Level: 5.

After leveling up his skills, Ron immediately noticed his senses becoming more acute, and he felt a profound connection with the Champion's Glory, the sword hanging at his waist, as if it would cross any distance to reach him if summoned.

"There are seven rats in the sewer below, one of them is sick and about to die!"

"Twenty meters away, there's a stick insect on a tree. Although it's disguised as a twig, the fuzz on its legs gives it away."

"Someone is frying steak in the kitchen, but they've added too much pepper; it's a bit overwhelming."

Testing his abilities, Ron found everything around him was under his control. The only downside was that his senses had become so sharp so suddenly that he wasn't yet accustomed to them. Everything was too noisy, his vision seemed slow, and various unpleasant smells overwhelmed him.

Ron quickly grabbed a piece of cloth to cover his ears and nose, finally feeling some relief. Of course, this was only temporary—once his body adjusted, it would automatically filter out unnecessary information.

When Ron first acquired the Sword Specialization skill, he had experienced a similar situation. Upon gaining [Sword Mastery], he should have felt more familiar with using a sword, but initially, it felt awkward and out of sync with his usual habits. It was only after adapting that he truly began to master the various techniques of swordsmanship.

Thus, Ron wasn't worried that he'd need to cover himself with cloth every time he went out.

After testing his senses, Ron decided to try summoning his sword. He placed the sword on the table, lay down on the bed, and waved his hand.

With a "clang," Champion's Glory shot out of its scabbard and landed squarely in his hand.

He threw the sword again, then waved his hand. Champion's Glory spun a few times in the air before tracing a graceful arc and returning to his grasp.

"Haha! This is amazing! Imagine in battle, throwing my sword and having it fly back to me, slicing across an enemy's neck. What would they think?"

"Probably wouldn't have time to think at all!"

After testing his summoning ability, Ron wanted to test his reflexes next, but that would require someone else's help, so he set that aside and focused on how to use the remaining Strength.

"I don't need to acquire any new Sub-Talents for now; it's better to convert the rest into personal Strength. If Baron really sends someone to assassinate me, I'll need enough power to defend myself."

Ron acted quickly, converting the remaining Strength into personal power. However, he didn't do it all at once, not because he was reluctant, but because he feared his body wouldn't adapt to a sudden increase of over 100 Strength, which could cause more problems.

So, he converted it incrementally, adding 10 Strength at a time and doing some flexibility exercises from the academy after each conversion. These exercises were similar to yoga, helping alleviate post-training soreness and making the body more resilient and flexible.

At the academy, these exercises were done both before and after training, serving as both warm-up and maintenance routines.

As Ron did his flexibility exercises and gradually increased his Strength, he noticed that while his power increased significantly, there was no discomfort.

"It really works! I feel much stronger, but without any side effects."

Encouraged by this, Ron worked even harder, only to find that after converting 100 Strength, the remaining 65 wouldn't change no matter what he did.

"Is there a limit?"

"That makes sense; there's a natural limit to how much power a body can handle."

"Now I've converted 100 Strength, adding to my original roughly 160 Strength, so I have around 260 now."

"While that's nowhere near those monsters, it's far beyond most people. If I face a strong enemy, at least I won't be at a huge disadvantage in terms of raw power."

Ron was very satisfied with today's gains and felt that reclaiming his territory was now within reach.

"I'll keep the remaining Strength for later. As for which Sub-Talent to learn next, I'll decide based on the situation."

Ron continued his exercises, pondering his future path. Before he knew it, night had fallen.

He then realized something was off: "Why haven't the gold coins Kahn promised arrived yet?"

"Could he have changed his mind?"

"Maybe he's stalling because I didn't sign the contract."

The more Ron thought about it, the more plausible it seemed, and his expression turned cold.

"I may not be able to deal with Baron, but if Kahn dares to trick me, he shouldn't blame me for being ruthless."

With that, Ron was about to head out to confront Kahn.

Just then, he heard faint footsteps on the roof, as light as a cat walking.

Though barely audible, the sound didn't escape Ron's enhanced hearing.

"They're here already?"

"And it's an expert!"

"Good thing I learned new skills; otherwise, I'd be dead without even knowing how it happened."
