章節 25: Chapter 25:. Betrayal's Shadow

Marie's eyes narrowed, her thoughts racing. "We need to tell the others," she said finally.

Stephen nodded. "I was hoping you'd see it that way. But we need to be careful. If Elliot is the spy, he'll do everything in his power to keep his cover."

Marie's mind was already racing ahead, planning their next move. "We'll need to gather evidence, something concrete to prove his betrayal."

Stephen's eyes gleamed in the darkness. "I've already started gathering intel. I think I can get us what we need."

Marie's eyes locked onto his, a sense of determination building between them. "Let's do this," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

As they turned to head back inside, a faint noise caught Marie's attention. She froze, her heart pounding in her chest.

"What is it?" Stephen asked, his voice low.

Marie's eyes scanned the darkness, her senses on high alert. "I thought I heard something," she whispered.

Stephen's gaze followed hers, his eyes scanning the shadows. And then, they saw it - a figure lurking just beyond the edge of the light.

Marie's heart skipped a beat as the figure stepped forward, revealing a face she knew all too well.

"Elliot," she breathed, her eyes locked onto his.

Elliot's smile was cold, calculating. "Marie, Stephen. I see you're getting close to the truth."

Marie's instincts screamed at her to run, but her feet seemed rooted to the spot. Stephen's hand on her arm was the only thing that kept her grounded.

"What truth, Elliot?" Stephen asked, his voice steady.

Elliot's eyes gleamed with malice. "The truth about me, of course. And the truth about your precious clan."

---

The tension was palpable as Elliot's words hung in the air. Marie's mind raced, searching for a way to diffuse the situation without alerting Elliot to their suspicions.

"What do you mean, Elliot?" Marie asked, her voice steady despite the fear gripping her heart.

Elliot's smile widened. "Oh, come now, Marie. Don't play dumb. I know you've been watching me. You've got questions, and I'm here to give you answers."

Stephen stepped forward, his stance protective. "And why would you do that?"

Elliot shrugged, his demeanor nonchalant. "Because, Stephen, it's only a matter of time before you figure it out on your own. I might as well enjoy the show."

Marie exchanged a glance with Stephen, a silent understanding passing between them. They needed to keep Elliot talking, buy themselves some time.

"What do you have against the clan, Elliot?" Marie asked, her voice calm.

Elliot's expression darkened. "The clan is built on lies and deception. You all think you're so noble, so righteous, but you're just as corrupt as everyone else. I've seen the truth, and it's time everyone else did too."

Stephen's eyes never left Elliot. "So you decided to betray us?"

Elliot's laugh was bitter. "Betrayal? No, Stephen, I'm setting things right. I'm exposing the rot at the core of this clan."

Marie's mind raced as she listened to Elliot's rant. They needed a way to turn this to their advantage. "What do you hope to gain from this, Elliot? Revenge? Power?"

Elliot's gaze hardened. "I want justice, Marie. For myself, for those who've been wronged. And I'll do whatever it takes to get it."

Stephen's grip on Marie's arm tightened. "You won't get away with this, Elliot. We'll stop you."

Elliot's smile returned, cold and mocking. "We'll see about that, Stephen. But for now, I think it's time I made my exit."

Before either of them could react, Elliot disappeared into the shadows, leaving Marie and Stephen standing in the cool night air, their minds racing with the implications of what had just transpired.

---

Back inside the stronghold, the group gathered once more, the weight of the revelation hanging heavily over them. Marie and Stephen shared what had happened with the others, their voices filled with urgency.

"We need to be on high alert," Khalid said, his voice firm. "Elliot's betrayal changes everything. We can't afford any mistakes."

Viktor nodded in agreement. "We need to tighten our security and keep an eye on each other. Trust is a luxury we can't afford right now."

Marie glanced around the room, her gaze lingering on each of her friends. "We can't let this tear us apart. We need to stay united, now more than ever."

Anthony stepped forward, his expression determined. "We'll find Elliot and put an end to this. But we need to be smart about it."

The group nodded in agreement, a sense of resolve settling over them. They had a difficult road ahead, but they knew they had to face it together.

As they made their plans, Marie couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in her chest. Elliot's words echoed in her mind, a constant reminder of the betrayal that had rocked their world.

But she knew they couldn't afford to dwell on it. They had a mission to complete, and they couldn't let anything stand in their way.

The hunt for Elliot had begun, and Marie was determined to see it through to the end.
