章節 34: Ch - 34 Shadow?
Another few days went by with the same routine, but one thing that changed was that now Swayam was also partaking in heroic work and helping people in need.
Thanks to his super physique, Swayam could go without sleeping for weeks and was mostly active at night. His dark suit gave him an advantage after dark. Crime is ever-present in the world, but since he wasn't capable of saving people around the world just yet, he mostly focused on helping those in need in Central City.
Since small criminals don't necessarily take the time into consideration before committing a crime, Barry mostly focused on them during the daytime, and Swayam took care of the criminals committing crimes at night, which, in his opinion, were a lot. Thankfully, Swayam was there to take some burden off Barry's shoulders, allowing him to maintain his daily life.
If something big happened that required both of their help and attention, they responded without delay. Things weren't as simple as they seemed in the show. During Swayam's night shifts, he often encountered small thefts committed by those in need of financial or physical help, such as hunger driving them to steal.
Swayam couldn't just beat them and hand them over to the cops, but he also couldn't let them go scot-free. So, while he stopped them from committing crimes, he also helped those in genuine need. One thing he understood during all this was that real life is completely different from reel life.
Having been through many hardships himself, Swayam could somewhat feel their desperation and needs. So whenever he could, he helped those committing crimes to feed themselves or their family members by providing them with food or clothes.
Ever since he started helping those in need, the poor people and those he helped began calling him The Guardian Shadow. Honestly, Swayam didn't expect such a name from those he helped, but he didn't dislike it. Although the Guardian part seemed exaggerated, he liked the name Shadow, and Cisco suggested that he should go by the name Shadow. After a small conversation with the others, he decided to adopt the name Shadow.

Today was one of those rare days when no one was committing a crime. Taking advantage of this, everyone decided to enjoy the rare day to the fullest and went to a club.
The club's environment was ambient, with people mingling and enjoying their time together. Swayam and Caitlin, being a couple, were sitting together, hand in hand, sweetly talking. Iris and Eddie, also a couple, were enjoying their time to the fullest and playing darts.
Cisco and Barry, feeling like third and fourth wheels, were trying to drown themselves in liquor. Although Cisco got drunk easily, Barry wasn't feeling the effects of the liquor, so he went to the trio and dejectedly spoke, "Guys, I have a problem."
Cisco, somewhat drunk, looked alternately between Eddie and Swayam and said, "We all do when guys like these two exist."
Swayam, sharing the table with Caitlin and Cisco, heard Cisco's mumble and responded, "Hey! What did I do?"
Although Swayam was 25 years old, he still had an immaturity and childish personality that showed from time to time. Barry, seeing that Swayam and Cisco were about to argue, corrected himself, "I'm not talking about you, Sam, or Eddie. I'm talking about this." He then drank all the shots at super speed.
After finishing, he looked at them and said, "I can't feel anything."
Cisco, still somewhat drunk, replied, "Yeah, that's usually what happens when you drink too much."
Seeing Cisco not getting his point, Barry explained, "No, the alcohol is not affecting me. I mean, I literally feel nothing."
Caitlin, being a physician, immediately realized what might be the problem and said, "It's your hypermetabolism. I need a sample."
Cisco, sobering up at Caitlin's scientific term, said, "I'll get more shots."
"I swear I had a Vacutainer," Caitlin said while searching through her purse.
Although Caitlin's personality had changed due to Swayam's presence, her core hobbies remained, making her who she is, and he was thankful for that. So he wasn't surprised when he saw her look through her bag. But for Barry, it was a first. "Wait, you carry a blood-collection kit in your purse?"
Caitlin, still searching, replied, "Hey! You have your hobbies too."
When Caitlin finished speaking and continued searching, Barry, flabbergasted, felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking at the owner of the hand, he saw Swayam shaking his head, indicating not to question it.
As they conversed, Cisco returned with a tray full of shots, placed it on the table, sat down, and handed everyone a shot. Although drinking alcohol wasn't new for Swayam, having done so on special occasions in his previous world, he refrained from it in this dangerous multiverse, unsure of what he might blabber if drunk. Even though he was certain he wouldn't get drunk due to his physique and abilities, he didn't want to take any risk.
But his plan went down the drain when Caitlin handed him a shot. Although he wanted to refuse, he couldn't, because the last time he did, Caitlin, somewhat drunk, made a hurt and rejected face, almost crying, which he didn't want to see. So he took the shot and drank it with ease.
Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin also took a shot along with him. After everyone drank, they looked towards Barry, while Cisco asked, "Ah. Still nothing?"
Barry became dejected for not getting drunk, "I can't get drunk. I mean, I'm only 25, and my drinking days are already over."
Swayam, who was sitting near Barry, placed his hand on Barry's shoulder, but before he could say anything, Eddie interrupted him, "Come on, Allen, you're up." Just as he finished saying that, his phone rang, informing him about a terrorist attack, which he subconsciously blurted out, "There was a bombing on Eighth and Pass. I gotta go, babe." After saying this, he kissed Iris and apologized to the others before leaving, "Sorry, guys."
That started a domino effect as Iris also left, giving the reason that she had an early shift at Jitters cafe. So everyone started giving a reason, Caitlin said, "I'm beat," while Barry said, "It's getting late anyways, so I'm just gonna..." and also left the pub after Iris. But before he left, he looked towards Swayam, who gave him a tacit nod, which Barry immediately understood.
