"Amelia!" Aiden exclaimed, rushing towards the door to pry it open, hoping that Amelia's presence was a figment of his imagination. 

Why hadn't he checked if the door was properly closed? Why did Emmeline come to find him?! 

All the questions were useless. Aiden only knew he had to resolve this or risk all his plans going up in smoke. 

He tried to reach out to Amelia, but she twisted away from his hands like his touch was poison. Her eyes that once used to look at him with tolerant fondness and affection were now replaced with jagged shards of hurt, their sharp edges cutting his bravado into pieces. 

"Please let me explain―"

"What is there to explain?" Amelia demanded shakily, her face was paler than the moon since all her blood had left her body. "I heard it all with my own two ears!"
