章節 64: 64. Zetsu
His bounty hunting goes well and he manages to improve his swordsmanship. Zoro can find good opponents thanks to the good information he gets from his new brokers.
He doesn't target S-Rank missing nins and only goes for A-Ranks, but they are great opponents for him who is trying to re-develop his battle style, so he shouldn't fight opponents who make him need to go all out.
These rounds of hunting are for training while also collecting money, after all. So he doesn't need to hunt missing nins that are too dangerous for him.
Though there's really no such thing as safe battles when he fights people who are trained to kill. It's just that he chooses targets that he can handle without too many risks so he can use them to train himself.
Zoro is hunting a lot of missing nins for the next few months, especially missing nins wanted by Konoha just as they requested through the information broker.
He also hunts those wanted by other villages because he needs to visit those villages every once in a while to gather information for the Land of Iron as their informant.
It's quite funny how he collects information from information brokers to hunt while he himself is an information gatherer. Though he's quite proud of himself for hiding his identity as an informant really well because no one finds out till this day.
Anyway, thanks to his careful training by hunting criminals, Zoro's swordsmanship has developed a lot in the last few months. Now he finally starts feeling that his swordsmanship style is truly his and not just a copy of the original Zoro's style.
His swordsmanship's movements are now faster, smoother, and more flexible compared to his previous style that was stiffer because it emphasized on strength.
If the previous style was quite rough, then the current style is smoother with more fluid movements.
But Zoro still retains the power of the previous style. So his attacks are still strong and heavy while they become faster as well.
He also never slacks on his physical and chakra training while polishing his skills. His talent for chakra may not be that high, but he still manages to reach the level of Jonin's chakra after working very hard for it.
There's no need to mention about his physical power though. Even right now, Zoro can confidently say that physically, he is one of the strongest human in the world.
If this is the One Piece world, then he might not reach the top level yet. But in the Naruto world, the levels of physical power are not as high as the One Piece world because chakra is more important here.
Well, thankfully, he isn't a ninja who relies on Ninjutsu. So even though his chakra level isn't that great, he still can become a strong fighter thanks to his physical power and skills.
Zoro keeps succeeding in his bounty hunting thanks to that. His fame also keeps increasing as he hunts more criminals. Now hidden villages and countries are basically preparing funds to pay him almost every month.
But thanks to that fame, criminal forces are also targeting him now. Those who are afraid of him are putting bounties for his head and all of them are from criminal organizations.
Zoro doesn't just hunt missing nins now, but all criminals with bounties. Some of them are parts of organizations, that's why he is now wanted by some dark forces.
Too bad for them, he isn't an easy prey. Everyone who comes to get his head ended up dead in his hands and he even gets rewards because most of them are wanted criminals.
But while a lot of criminals want him dead, some actually want him to join them. After all, he is strong and doesn't belong to any country. A lot of them also think that he is someone who will do anything for money, so many of them have tried to recruit him.
One of the organizations that tried to recruit him is the one he is the most wary of, Akatsuki. The current Akatsuki is already completely under Tobi's control as Yahiko has died and Nagato is consumed by anger because of his best friend's death.
They have started turning into the Akatsuki known in the original story although they aren't that big and strong yet. But they are still dangerous because just Nagato alone is someone who can destroy a big hidden village like Konoha.
Zoro is on his way to hunt an S-Rank criminal wanted by the Land of Lightning and the Land of Fire when he suddenly feels 2 faint presences that seem to merge into 1 quite deep underground.
The presence follows him from the town and keeps following him even after he goes far enough into the forest as he rides the tiger-sized Torao.
He guesses that it must be Zetsu, but he stays silent and ignores it as if he doesn't feel anything. Zoro wants to hide the fact that he can feel Zetsu's presence because he thinks it will be useful in the future.
Actually, he is surprised that he can feel Zetsu's presence because he thought that Zetsu won't have any presence.
After all, Zetsu is meant to be a master of hiding because even skillful sensor type shinobis can't detect him when he's hiding.
Yet, Zoro can feel him even though he hides underground. If it's really Zetsu, then that means his Observation Haki is good enough to sense someone who basically is the same as nature itself as Zetsu is a creature created by the Chakra Tree.
Then as he has guessed, it really is Zetsu. To be more precise, the combined body of White and Black Zetsu.
Zetsu suddenly appears out of a tree in front of Zoro and stops him. Just like in the series, this Zetsu has a body part that looks like a big flytrap mouth on the head.
It also wears Akatsuki's cloak, although the cloak still doesn't have those red cloud patterns. The cloak is still just a plain black cloak with a red zipper.
"Who are you?" Zoro acts as if he is surprised by Zetsu's sudden appearance. He even holds one of his swords to show that he is ready to fight anytime.
"Calm down, Ninja Hunter Zoro. I am not here to fight you. I simply want to talk with you." Black Zetsu is the one who talks to Zoro.
"Then hurry up. I am busy now. What do you want?" Zoro doesn't lower his guard and keeps his hand on his sword.
"My name is Zetsu and I'm here to recruit you into our group, Akatsuki."
"Not interested. And I never heard of such a group." Zoro acts oblivious about Akatsuki because it is not that famous yet at this time.
"Now, now, don't be too hasty. At least you can hear our offer first." It's White Zetsu who talks now.
"Just say it shortly then. But I don't think I will change my mind. After all, I can guess that you are a criminal group. Only those kinds of groups are approaching me to join them even though I made it clear I won't join any group."
"A criminal group, huh? Well, you are not wrong. But the labels of criminals are decided by countries. Sometimes, those with such labels are not even evil. Yet, they are labelled as criminals because they don't follow what those countries want from them."
"So are you saying you are such a group?"
"At least in our point of view. We are simply a group who want world peace and stop the world from conflicts. But every country wants to have everything for themselves and keeps fighting with each other. We have investigated you for a while and thought you are a suitable person to join our group. From what we see, you are only hunting those who truly did evil things and never goes for those who become criminals because of their countries' selfishness. That means you are also fighting for peace. So don't you think it will be better if you also join a group that wants to build peace?"
"Peace, huh? I don't really care about such a thing and I still don't want to join any group even if it has such a noble goal. So I won't join you. Now, leave before I get annoyed and start seeing you as an enemy."
"Seems like we are too hasty. Then let's just think of this meeting as our introduction. We will come to see you again after some time."
"Don't bother yourself."
Zetsu then sinks into the tree again, but Zoro still can feel his presence. Zoro ignores it and continues his way to find his next target.
He's sure Akatsuki will try to recruit him again now that they have set their eyes on him. Although he doesn't have any intention to join them, he is still curious to see how persistent they will be about recruiting him.
