章節 18: Game Begins: Maritime Banquet 18

Wen Nannan continued to carry the wooden ladder towards the containers.

However, as she approached the center of the containers, the stench grew stronger, becoming very similar to the smell of rotting corpses in the ship's hold.

Wen Nannan's steps slowed down...

The containers were stacked high, and Wen Nannan stood at the bottom, looking at the dark red container beside her.

The base of the container was already rusty, and the rust water had gathered around it, further corroding the container's exterior.

The numbers on it were blurred and unreadable. Wen Nannan was about to leave when she suddenly noticed a hole in the corner of the container, and something seemed to be moving inside.

Curiosity compelled her to squat down and slowly approach, wanting to see what it was.

Rip.

A pale finger extended from the hole, its tip painted with bright red nail polish. The finger twisted stiffly in the air, scraped by the sharp edge, revealing bloody flesh. Black blood slowly oozed out.

Wen Nannan took out her kitchen knife and gently flicked the finger.

Suddenly, there was a violent crash in the container.

The sound was like a drop of water falling into hot oil, triggering a huge reaction. The contents of dozens of containers around them could no longer be contained.

The unique growls, crashes, and sounds of fingernails and teeth scraping against the metal of the containers...

These sounds surrounded Wen Nannan, making her scalp tingle.

Damn it!

Wen Nannan dropped the wooden ladder and ran back quickly.

"Mr. Lu, it's not good. The containers in Zone B are all filled with zombies!"

Wen Nannan wiped the cold sweat from her forehead and closed all the doors and windows of the cabin.

Lu Huai was not surprised by the news. His expression was calm. "It's not just Zone B. Seventy percent of the containers in the four zones are filled with zombies."

Having arrived a day earlier than Wen Nannan, Lu Huai had already surveyed the entire deck.

Seventy percent!

Now it was Wen Nannan's turn to have a mental breakdown.

She had originally thought that the deck was relatively safe, so she had risked her life to go out. Now, it turned out that she had entered a zombie den.

Wen Nannan sat weakly on the ground and wiped away her tears.

"This damn game is so disgusting. It doesn't explain anything and just lets people step on landmines. Seven layers of containers. How many zombies must there be?"

Lu Huai: "About 20,000."

"How do you know? Did you count them?"

"Didn't the game say at the beginning that there would be 20,000 NPCs and players in the game?" Lu Huai glanced at Wen Nannan. "The game only gives information at the very beginning. Not everything is useless."

"I always thought that those 20,000 NPCs were the people on the shore."

"It's normal to think that way. This game is very misleading."

Lu Huai put away his gun and said coldly, "Instead of being depressed here, why don't we go and check the two stairwells and the elevator, and think about how to avoid the zombies in the containers?"

Seeing that he was about to leave, Wen Nannan stood up and followed behind him.

The two stairwells at the front and back were both locked. The zombies that had previously gathered in the back stairwell had dispersed, leaving only three or four wandering around the entrance.

Lu Huai found some wooden planks and nails, and the two of them sealed the elevator as well.

4:00 PM

It got dark very quickly.

Lu Huai looked up at the sky. "It's going to rain heavily. Let's go back."

The two of them rushed back to the cabin, which was in a bit of a mess.

Wen Nannan's backpack was gone.

The room had been ransacked. The food and water that had been left outside were gone, as were the medicine.

It was obvious who had done this.

"Sun, Yan, Yan!"

Wen Nannan gritted her teeth. If she hadn't kept her weapon on her at all times, would she have lost the kitchen knife as well?

"I thought you killed her." Lu Huai glanced at her.

Wen Nannan lowered her head. "Killing... that's too crazy."

She had been a law-abiding citizen and had never even killed a chicken.

A bag of noodles and a small pot were placed in front of her.

"Then you'd better adapt quickly." Lu Huai pulled out the small knife that had been stuck in his shoe. "Also, go cook."

Wen Nannan held the noodles in a daze for a moment, then nodded in a daze. "Oh, okay."

Sun Yanyan had not taken the condiments when she left, and the 2 liters of water were still there.

Cooking was very relaxing. Even if there were only a handful of noodles, making the sauce was a relaxing process.

"Okay, try it."

Wen Nannan relaxed and became more lively. "It's a pity there are no scallions. I'm perfect at making scallion oil noodles."

Lu Huai sat down and took a bite. He quickly finished the whole bowl of noodles. Although Lu Huai didn't say anything, judging from the fact that he finished everything, he must have been satisfied.

Wen Nannan found a blanket and quilt on the cabinet and spread them out on the small sofa.

Rumble—

There started to be thunder and lightning outside.

Large raindrops hit the metal sheets, making a clattering sound.

Lying on the sofa, Wen Nannan felt a little uneasy. "Do you think the zombies in the containers will come out?"

"Yes." Lu Huai's voice sounded like metal colliding, echoing in space. It was pleasant and cold. "We'll take turns keeping watch at night, three hours each."

"Mr. Lu, I actually think we should go to a higher place." Wen Nannan turned over and looked at Lu Huai.

"Higher?" Lu Huai looked into Wen Nannan's eyes, his eyebrows raised slightly.

"To be precise, it should be the highest point of the container," Wen Nannan nodded.

"Zombies have strong senses of smell and hearing. The cabin is not strong enough, and I feel that the living people below might also find an opportunity to come up.

I think this cabin is not safe enough anyway. Why don't we take advantage of the fact that the zombies haven't come out yet and move to the place with the best terrain?"

Lu Huai closed his eyes, and the room was quiet for a moment.

Just when Wen Nannan thought that Lu Huai would not accept her suggestion and was preparing to go it alone tomorrow, he finally spoke.

"Okay."

Lu Huai looked at Wen Nannan. "But before we go somewhere new, there's one more thing we have to do."
