Giovanni breathed steadily to maintain an outward calm despite the panic coursing through him. He did have a gun pointed at the back of his head after all, grip unwavering. The three of them stood silently in the motel room, the younger man behind him breathing warm and uneven air against the nape of his neck, betraying his own nerves. The tension in the air was thick and he knew that he had to keep his wits about him, to stay calm and alert for his own survival depended on it.

This morning, when he stepped out of that convenience store while sorting through the bag of goods he bought, a brand new bandage wrap to replace his faux bandage around his swollen foot and some tuna sandwich because Luciano seemed to have enjoyed it the last time he bought one for him, he halted when the cold steel of the gun pressed firmly against the back of his head.

The familiar voice calling his name made his blood immediately run cold. "Long time no see."
