She could never mistake that book; the thickness, the worn leather cover, the faded gold lettering, the peculiar symbol etched into the corner of the hard cover- every detail was achingly familiar. She felt as though she'd been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her.

Her clouded mind was reeling with questions. How did he…? Why did he…? The questions trailed off when she heard the man still speaking friendly to her from the kitchen, his once calming voice was now a catalyst that set off all her doubts, rather than reassure her.

She had acted purely on impulse. Her sharp eyes had snapped to the silver sword lying carelessly about the corner and she'd quickly snatched it up with wilful expertise before finding the Alpha. The stench of the silver was pungent and she wondered why a wolf should have something this lethal with him.

"Explain this!" she demanded, her voice low and deadly.
