"Why did you say no?" Asher asked in an odd tone.

Caspian looked up at him then in pure disbelief, "What?"

"I just…" Asher trailed off, tousling his dark red hair. "I'm just curious."

"Are you seriously asking me that?" Caspian asked, slowly getting to his feet.

Asher was certain he could taste bile then, panic souring the taste in his mouth. "I…" He trailed off, unsure of what to say.

He wanted to fix his mistake but he was wary of saying another word, certain he would ruin things further.

Because he really did want to know why Caspian said no. He knew his mate loved him, but he just wanted some reassurance.

And he found the absolutely worst way to seek for it.

But deep down, he was really insecure, he was a Mafia King and he had little else to give Caspian but a dangerous life.
