We looked to see where the voice was coming from. Zachary, Zairon, and a few men were walking toward us, their steps echoing dramatically across the room. They always seemed to make an entrance like this, drawing everyone's attention without fail.

Zairon was the first to lock eyes with me, a flicker of something unidentifiable in his gaze. As soon as Zaen saw me, her face twisted in panic. She rushed over, her movements quick and deliberate. In a flash, she draped a large suit jacket over me, shielding my body. I had no idea where she had gotten it from, but it seemed to materialize out of nowhere.

I could feel the bruises on my face, the tender spots where I had been hit, but Zaen immediately positioned herself in front of me, using his body as a barrier. She pretended to sit casually, but I knew she was trying to hide me from their view, her presence offering a small measure of comfort amidst the chaos.
