"Where am I?" Akiko questions herself as her as she looks around trying to survey her surroundings.
Akiko's head was spinning with confusion as she tried to piece together her surroundings. The darkness seemed to swallow her whole, leaving her feeling disoriented and lost. But amidst the darkness, a faint flicker of light caught her attention. She squinted her eyes and saw a campfire, with a figure sitting by it.
Her heart raced with both fear and curiosity as she cautiously made her way towards the campfire. It was her only hope of finding answers in this unknown place. As she approached, she noticed the figure was a woman, her features illuminated by the warm glow of the fire.
Akiko couldn't help but stare at the woman in awe. She was the epitome of beauty, with her flawless skin and long, flowing hair. But what caught Akiko's attention the most were the woman's deep blue eyes, identical to her own.
Lost in her thoughts, Akiko didn't realize the woman was also looking at her until she heard her voice. "Hello there," the woman said with a warm smile, breaking the silence. Akiko's initial fear melted away as she felt a sense of familiarity with the woman. She couldn't explain it, but she felt a connection with her.
The woman's words hung in the air, breaking the intense staring contest between her and Akiko. The girl couldn't help but feel a mixture of awe and confusion at the woman's presence in this strange place.
"You're quite a stubborn girl if I may say," the woman remarked with a wry smile. Her words had a hint of admiration, as if she had seen this kind of determination before.
Akiko finally found her voice, her mind still reeling from the shock of being transported to this mysterious Abyss just after being in a forest with Mr Yamamoto. She couldn't help but ask, "Where am I? And how did I get here?"
The woman sitting down on a log, motioned for Akiko to join her. "To answer your first question, you're in a place that connects the real world to the pure lands. It's a sort of limbo, where only souls pass through," she explained. Akiko's eyes widened in disbelief. This place seemed unreal, and yet, she was here. "And for your second question," the woman continued, "I presume you have to die to get here. I don't know of any other method."
The gravity of the woman's words hit Akiko like a ton of bricks. Was she...dead? She couldn't remember anything that could have led to her death, she was just carrying Mr Yamamoto to a nearby lake and although there were some burns and some few injuries there was nothing wrong with her body and there is no way she could be dead
The woman, sensing Akiko's turmoil, quickly guides her to a nearby log and begins to stroke her head gently. It's a comforting gesture, reminiscent of a mother soothing her child on a bad day. "Don't worry, dear. You're not dead," the woman reassures Akiko. "I'm not sure how or why, but your soul has been transported here. But don't fret, your soul will return to your body soon." She continues to stroke Akiko's hair, offering a sense of calm and reassurance.
Finally, Akiko's racing thoughts begin to slow as she takes in the woman's words and feels the gentle touch on her head.
"What about Mr. Yamamoto? Is he safe?" Akiko's thoughts cleared and she finally realized that she had been trying to save Yamamoto. The thought of his safety weighed heavily on her mind.
The woman responded, "I don't know who this Yamamoto is, but no one has entered this room in the past minute." Her words brought a wave of relief over Akiko, knowing that Yamamoto was safe.
"He must mean a lot to you for you to be so worried," the woman said, a soft smile on her lips as she watched Akiko breathe a sigh of relief.
"He's the only person who has ever cared for me so deeply," Akiko replied, a bright smile forming on her face as she reminisced about the memories she shared with Yamamoto.
The woman's eyes showed a mix of emotions as she heard Akiko's words and saw her smile. Happiness, sadness, and longing were the most prominent ones.
"While we wait for your soul to return to the land of the living, why don't you tell me about your story?" the woman suggested, wanting to hear more about Akiko's tale.
Akiko eagerly poured her heart out to the woman, starting from the day she was born and continuing until the moment she wet her bed. She shared every detail, from the painful memories of being bullied by the maids to the triumph of creating a secret hideout in the basement. Despite not knowing why, Akiko felt an overwhelming need to disclose everything to this woman. She couldn't shake off the feeling that if she didn't, she would regret it for the rest of her life and never have the opportunity to do so again.
The woman's words were filled with genuine warmth and understanding as she spoke to Akiko. "You had a tough life," she said, her gentle smile conveying a sense of empathy. "But I'm glad that you were able to meet this Yamamoto."
Feeling a sense of curiosity, Akiko couldn't help but ask, "I'm sorry, but who are you?" As she looked at the woman, she suddenly realized that she hadn't even asked for her name or why she was here.
"To answer your question, why don't I share with you a story from my past?" She suggests, her words piquing Akiko's curiosity.
