It was just past eight in the evening, and Shen Mianmian wasn't very sleepy yet. With final exams just three days away, she needed to make good use of her time to study. She had fallen behind on too much knowledge in the past, and although she could now grasp things quickly, she still needed to look at example questions to understand some of the new material.

The books that He Nan had given her, the more important ones, she had already finished reading; only a few others remained, like those purchased for extracurricular reading. She rifled through them and then found an English book among the remaining volumes.

The book looked new, as if it had never been turned over.

In the 21st century, children start learning English vocabulary in kindergarten, but in the 1980s, this was something that was only begun in middle school, and Shen Mianmian's English had always been utterly abysmal.
