章節 108: Chapter 107

Derek found what he was looking for very soon, in a cell in the end of one corridor, he found a man very much human hung by chains and barely alive. As soon as Derek made to enter the cell the man started speaking.

"I have told you everything, just kill me I already, I don't know what you are looking for, they didn't tell me anything, I was just a low rank guard, " the man spat with a bloody mouth.

Derek believed the man if the half-breeds weren't able to get anything out of him, what could he do? He was about to leave but he stopped as something hit his mind.

"You know someone once told me that there are two ways to interrogate people, " he spoke slowly entering the cell.

The man looked up at the change of voice from his usual interrogater.

"Who are you? Why can't I see you?" the man asked.

"There are two ways because there are two kinds of people and there are two possibilities, you either know something or don't, you are either willing to speak or not, in one case torture works pretty good, but for some it doesn't, they want you to think that they can't take the pain and so are ready to tell everything, when in fact they are hiding the real secret, you know what gave you away?"

"What are you talking about? Show yourself first, " said the man.

"It's the way you talk, you speak our tongue too proper to be just a low rank soldier, I bet you must have a very rich family, who were able to afford you a proper education to learn other tongues, " said Derek.

The man who had been begging for his life and looking so weak now, his expressions suddenly turned much more confident and fearless.

"The other interrogates didn't know so much about us, he was pretty easy to make a fool of, " he smiled.

"So you show your true colors finally, I thought you would try your best to keep up your act, " said Derek.

"I would have if you had showed me your face, but the way you are hiding I think I know who you are, which means you don't have much time, and definitely not enough to pull secrets out of me, " the man smiled.

"So, if you don't want me to scream and tell everyone that you were here, I advice you to listen to me," said the man.

"You know there was another thing that man told me, that whenever someone tries to blackmail you always remember that you can blackmail him back if you have the upper hand, and since I am not the one in chains and near death, I would say you are the one who needs to listen to me, " said Derek.

"I am not afraid of death, " said the man.

"You would have killed yourself then, because no matter what, even if you tell them about me, they are not letting you out of here, " said Derek.

"So, I give you a simple choice, tell me what you didn't tell them and I can put you out of your misery without any pain, or I will go and tell them that you are indeed hiding something and that you called your interrogater a fool, I bet he wouldn't like that, and no matter how trouble they are in right now, I know from personal experience, they know how to deal with liars like you, " said Derek.

"I can just hold my breath and kill myself, but I can fuck up your plan still, " said the man.

"You cannot, the air in the room, it's laced with a sedative, it's hard to smell, but it loosens your muscles, you can't feel it with all the pain and blood but you won't be able to constrict your muscles enough to hold your breath, you can try it, if you don't believe me, I told you they are not completely stupid, I bet they evn have a spell in place for other ways, " said Derek.

Now the man looked doubtful.

"How will you kill me then, without raising suspicion?" he asked.

"It's common for patients to die of pain and stress, their brains just stop working sometimes, that's why they won't turture you long but in rounds, but there is the danger always, nobody would be suspicious, " he said.

The man didn't speak, Derek knew he needed motivation to ask him to take his life.

"Hurry, I don't have much time, this is your last chance, once I walk out of here, I am not coming back, just go to sleep, it is peaceful trust me, " said Derek.

"Fine, but I don't know much, they really kept it quite even from us, but i keep my eyes and ears open, so i figured out some stuff," said the man.

"And what did you figure out?" Derek asked.

"First their was a visitor from one of your nations, who came to us, that doesn't happen often, and when they went back, they were not alone, " he said.

"Who was with them?" Derek asked.

"I don't know, the higher mages don't show themselves much anyways, it could have been anyone of them, " said the man.

"Could it have been, Karaft?" Derek asked.

"How do you know about, Lord Karaft?" The man asked taken aback.

"Just answer me, " Derek hissed.

"Could be, I didn't see Lord Karaft, out and about since that day, but there were many others too, who didn't show their faces, " he said.

Derek had heard enough, he was both happy and upset. Happy that he had finally had a breakthrough and got some very needed information and the information was good too.

Upset because his fears had come true, he was sure that it was Karaft who had come here, the whole thing reeked of him, he was the only one sinister and smart enough to plot something this big. And if it was him then the real danger hadn't passed away, he was sure their was a much bigger plan in place.

It was time to leave, he had made a promise to the man, so he let some of his mana enter his mind through the ears, a little pressure in the right place and the brain shut off easily and the man went to sleep.

Derek hurried out, the lanterns were being lit already, but he didn't worry too much he ran like a gust of wind now because he knew where he was going, he found the office and quickly grabbed his sword and armor and turned back into the half-breed he had impersonated from earlier.

He was planning to go back to the ship and let his tail follow him back out if they were still following his double, he would have been taking them in circles through the whole ship by now, and anyone with a mind would have understood what was happening but you never know, it hadn't been that long, it would be the best outcome if they just pick him up from the ship thinking that he had been in the ship all along.

But Derek's that hope was put to hold, when as he left the building, he saw that the iron gates were slightly open now, someone had come in through them. There was a small crows around the two men, Derek didn't know the half-breed guards by name but he knew these two, since they had been present around when they were fighting and there were only two people who he knew of, who had left the city and whose return would receive such attention. Barns and Vanos the ones Lufius had sent to the capital for answers.

And even though the two weren't answering the questions of the gate guards, it was clear from their faces that they had some big news. The pulled themselves out of the crowd and hurried off to the castle. Derek waited for the right moment and slipped out too, he took another way back to the castle, he was sure they would go straight to the duke's office, he probably already knows they are coming and has called an urgent meeting, he needed to get to the castle in time and get Fiona placed to hear the news as soon as possible.

He ran with all his force, the news that Karaft was probably in the half-breed kingdom had changed the seriousness of the situation, everything would seem quite to someone else but he knew Karaft. He knew that with him involve the silence is deadly and evey moment he wasted doing nothing meant that he was falling behind.

He let his disguise go and without caring for who might see him, jumped straight on top of the buildings to reach the tower they were in, he had left his window open and entered through it. He ran to Fiona's room and slammed the door open.

"What's the matter?" Isanna and Fiona were both present there, training or something.

"Fiona! Hurry I want you to go to the Duke's office, " he told her. Fiona knew already what Derek would have barged in her room for, but she was still surprised by his urgency.
