章節 62: Chapter 61
Derek had Marty slow down the speed of the ship when they reached the port, they were all present on the deck waiting to catch the first glimpse of the city.
"I have arranged the paddle boat for you to take to the dock, once you take a look and signal us only then will I dock the ship to the port, " said Marty.
"What if they start attacking us as soon as they see us?" asked Fiona.
"That is a possibility too, we have prepared for every such possibility, Marty was just being optimistic, " said Derek.
Ron still was pissed at Isanna he couldn't help it, he was even more angry at Marty and couldn't help but throw him repulsive looks now and then. He was staying away from Isanna which wasn't easy with their small group, but every chance he got he stood as far away from her as possible and she had started noticing it a little.
Derek and Marty both were looking with their far glasses and everybody thought they would see the city before everyone else and would inform them, but that didn't happen, everyone on the ship could tell they had reached because of the long lines of smoke rising into the sky. The city was burning.
"Increase the speed, Marty, " said Derek.
"What's happening, I thought you said they were just holding the city, keeping the prisoners, and the king hasn't attacked yet, do you think he has finally launched an attack?" asked Isanna.
"I don't know, but I don't think Ramon has made a move yet, It might be that the people of the city have decided to take matters into their own hands finally, and we need to help them, " said Derek.
"I don't want to sound like I don't want to help but why exactly are we helping them?, " asked Isanna.
Rin had come down from the mast and for the first time, she looked determined and anxious as she looked at the smoke.
"Because they asked for our help, " said Derek.
"Then why aren't they helping the city too, they have got the whole might of the half-breed kingdom and they can't take back a city?" asked Isanna.
"Things are more complicated than we think, but just remember we are making our moves based on morality and history, " said Derek.
They were close to the city now and could see the dozens of big barbarian ships docked in the harbor. But there was no activity there it was clear that the battle was going on inside the city right now.
"Take the ship all the way Marty I don't think we are going to have any trouble, looks like they are all gone, the ships look empty, " said Derek.
"I know but just in case, the crew is a bit scared too, they were supposed to be with their families right now enjoying a few weeks off, but I insisted and brought them here just for you, I hope you understand, " said Marty.
"Fine, we'll take the boat, and get it in the water, " said Derek.
"He is the one who is scared, " muttered Ron but in his anger, he didn't lower his voice enough and the people around to him heard it.
Marty had left to prepare the boat.
"He is just worried about his crew, " said Isanna.
"Then why doesn't he come with us in the boat, " said Ron louder this time, too pissed at Isanna for defending him always. Isanna was taken aback and confused.
"Let's go we don't have time to chit-chat, " said Derek.
The small wooden boat was lowered into the water, and they all jumped down into it. Derek and Roan took the pedals on both sides and they slowly steered the boat towards the dock.
The dock was eerily quiet but there was still smoke coming from all over the city beyond, it was weird going past the big silent ships, they rowed the boat in the middle of two big barbarian boats from this angle they could finally see a little bit of the city, the taller buildings and towers in the city.
They had all expected that the fight would start once they got on land and headed into the city, Rin was at the edge of the boat waiting for the distance to shrink enough so that she could jump off.
Ron was sitting with his back to the city, he had to turn to look every once in a while, but mostly he had to look at Marty's boat in the distance now and as they were just about to cross the big ships, he looked at the canons that were hanging out underneath the boat.
In Marty's ship or the others, they were kept inside and only taken out in the time of battle, maybe the design was different with these. But his eyes then noticed the slightest of movements, he felt something change in the picture in front of him, but he didn't know what, he looked around at the ships, and slowly he realized that the canons were ever so slightly moving and aiming towards them.
As soon as he noticed it he shouted, he didn't know what he said, he just cried because the next moment the surroundings shook with loud ear-shattering blasts, rows of canons from both ships all aimed at them fired and their little boat was turned into a large ball of fire. The boat shattered into a million pieces at once. The combined explosion was so big that even the bigger ships recoiled backward by the waves.
After the fire stopped growing and the sound stopped, there was again silence in the surroundings, there was nothing left of the boat or the occupants, only small pieces of burnt wood floated now in its place.
Marty on his boat kept looking at the place where the boat was for minutes, he then started looking all around to see any movement anywhere else in the water. His hands were shaking his heart beating fast, he was sweating even in the cold sea breeze.
He finally slowly closed the far glass, his eyes still in the same direction.
His vice-captain came and stood beside him.
"I told them, let me do it, go... Go with my plan, and they sent those black hands, that Nefar was so arrogant he was planning to kill me off with them too with the stunt he pulled with the leviathan, but I know Derek, he is not so easy to kill, you have to use everything you have got and a little element of surprise, no arrows or blades were going to kill him especially if he saw it coming and when he had others with him like Isanna, alas she had to go too, she was a good fuck, but business is business, plus with the money now I can buy hundreds of more whores like here, hehe, " Marty grinned with his dirty teeth shinning in the air.
"Should we turn around now?" asked his man.
"No stay around, I want to see if this is a rebellion caused by the people of the city, if it is, it shouldn't take too long to hammer especially with Derek now gone to not help them, " said Marty taking a long sip of rum and turning away from the scene finally.
