章節 24: Fighting A Lizard

The monstrous lizard-like creature slithered into view from the shadows but only Ethan noticed it. The other is only focused on the battle in front of them.

With a quick glance, he sized up the new threat, his mind already calculating the best course of action.

Ethan remained calm and collected, his expression betraying no hint of panic or hesitation.

Now is not the time to feel afraid. Instead, this is an opportunity to gain a lot of rewards as Claudia mentioned. He looked around, searching for Irene's whereabouts but found her still immersed in her fight. She seemed almost possessed.

'I'll let her be for now.'

So Ethan left her and decided to handle the giant lizard alone. He walked in a different direction from the flow of the Invited. His bow drawn, he took aim.

*SWIISHH!*

His arrow flew through the air but only landed at the creature's foot, though he had targeted its eyes. Ethan then realized that his archery skills were still lacking.

But that didn't worry him. With a calm demeanor, he approached the giant lizard and shot his Aether arrow again.

The effectiveness of these Aether arrows had been proven when he used them to kill the Shadow Behemoth earlier. The damage inflicted by this arrow was simply amazing.

Ethan didn't know what Aether truly was. But he was sure it was an incredibly powerful source of energy beyond comprehension. He was confident he would learn more inside the Tower.

But for now, the giant lizard was the priority. Ethan walked toward it, and the giant lizard noticed his presence as a challenger.

"ROAR!"

The giant lizard lunged forward. Its massive claws slashing through the air. But Ethan's instincts kicked into overdrive. With lightning-fast reflexes he sidestepped the creature's onslaught, narrowly evading the razor-sharp claws by mere inches.

His body twisted and contorted with fluid grace as he dodged and weaved through the onslaught. Ethan knew he could dodge all of that because his Attributes far exceeded that of a normal human.

But he was slightly caught off guard because he thought he could avoid the lizard's attacks with a wide margin. The reality was he barely avoided the claws, so Ethan decided to increase his vigilance.

He anticipated each strike with uncanny accuracy, sidestepping and ducking with effortless grace as he stayed one step ahead of his monstrous adversary.

With every dodge, Ethan's confidence grew. His movements becoming more fluid and precise with each passing moment. His body flowing seamlessly from one evasion to the next as he danced on the edge of danger.

Then, he drew his bowstring after landing from avoiding an attack. The Aether arrow shot forth, this time successfully hitting its eyes.

"ROAR!"

It let out a roar of pain again. Blood splattered from its eyes. But that didn't stop the monster. Instead, it only made it angrier.

The giant lizard stared at Ethan with its single remaining eye. Its fury seemed to intensify and its roars echoing through the forest and ground. Finally, few Invited noticed that there is another lizard on this side.

With each passing moment, the lizard's attacks grew faster and more ferocious. The creature unleashing a relentless barrage of strikes in its desperate bid to overpower Ethan.

Ethan could feel the pressure mounting as the creature's onslaught intensified. Its claws slashing through the air with blinding speed as it sought to land a decisive blow.

*WOOSH!*

With each near miss, Ethan's heart pounded in his chest.

But Ethan's Attributes are far higher than those of this floor. That's why he can handle this situation relatively easily. Additionally, he has the Soul Sense that allows him to sense the intentions of the creature in front of him split seconds before its attack comes.

He keeps dancing around the lizard and continues to shoot his Aether arrows, chipping away at the lizard's health in large volumes.

Unfortunately, he can no longer use his Soul Manipulation. If he could still use it, he would want to take the giant lizard's Soul as his slave.

The battle seemed to reach its climax, Ethan's Aether arrows flying true as they found their mark time and time again. With each strike, the giant lizard's defenses began to weaken, its once strength faltering beneath the relentless barrage of his powerful arrow.

With each arrow that pierced its hide, the giant lizard's movements grew more sluggish. Its roars of defiance gradually giving way to pained cries.

Despite its ferocity, the creature could not withstand the relentless assault. Sensing an opportunity, Ethan pressed his advantage, his bowstring singing as he unleashed a final volley of Aether arrows at the giant beast.

As the final arrow struck true, the giant lizard let out a guttural roar of agony. Its massive form convulsing as it collapsed to the ground.

Ethan watched as the creature's struggles grew weaker and weaker, until finally, it lay still, defeated. Blood splattered the ground where it had stood moments ago.

Ethan let out a long breath, a wide grin spreading across his face. Finally, he could feel the thrill of a real fight.

As Ethan stood victorious over the fallen giant lizard, a hushed silence fell over few of the Invited. Their eyes wide with awe and admiration at the sight before them. For a moment, they simply stood in stunned silence, unable to comprehend the magnitude of Ethan's feat while the battle around them still going on.

Ethan called upon his Rune and examined what was written there. He noticed there were several voices he had heard inside his head earlier, but he had been too preoccupied to investigate them at the time.

First, he saw that his Soul Essence had risen to 750/5000, which was good news. Then, he also gained some new abilities and something called the Black Box, with the rank of Ascended Artifact. Undoubtedly, it contained something good.

"Hey! Help us when you're done over there!" a voice called out from the battlefield. Ethan turned to see a woman shouting and waving at him.

"Come on here! What the heck are you doing?!" the woman screamed again.

Ethan sighed and walked over to them, deciding to lend a hand.
