Everit picked up a young girl—Wendy.
When Jellal woke up, he didn't recognize Wendy. Seeing Wendy trying to intervene, he pushed her away, causing her to faint.
"Wendy."
Everit gently pinched Wendy's soft cheeks.
"Hmm?" Wendy woke up groggily.
"Oh, Mr. Everit!" Wendy sat up abruptly.
Glancing around, she exclaimed, "They captured you too?!"
The surroundings clearly resembled a prison cell, with dark wizards standing guard outside.
"Yes, he's worthy of being one of the Oración Seiss and former Wizard Saint. I did my best," Everit sighed.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Everit, I've dragged you into this," Wendy said regretfully.
"It's alright. Natsu and the others will surely come to rescue us," Everit reassured her.
"Jellal..." Wendy felt disheartened. She remembered how Jellal had claimed not to know her at all and had been rude. This wasn't the person she remembered.
"Do you know Jellal?" Everit asked.
"Yes," Wendy nodded, providing a brief explanation.
Like Natsu, she was raised by a dragon. After the Sky dragon Grandeeney disappeared, the young girl struggled to survive. Fortunately, she met Jellal.
He took her on a journey, but one day he suddenly exclaimed "Edolas" and became distant. Eventually, he left her at the Cait Shelter.
To Wendy, Jellal was not only her benefactor but also like a brother.
She hadn't expected their reunion to unfold like this.
This left her feeling sad and lost.
"Hmm," Everit adjusted his glasses. "If the person you're describing resembles Jellal but is kinder, then it sounds like someone else I know."
"Huh?" Wendy looked at him quizzically.
Everit continued, "There's a member of our guild who looks like Jellal. His name is Mystogan. He's a mysterious yet gentle person."
"Could it be?" Wendy's eyes widened in surprise.
"As far as I know about Jellal, he was imprisoned as a child and stayed there for a long time. If he's described as very gentle and kind, the timeline doesn't add up," Everit analyzed.
Actually, Wendy's benefactor is Mystogan, so he knows about this.
But I need to find some reasons to convince her.
But there's no rush. Wendy will join the guild sooner or later, and the truth will come out then.
"As for that guy named Mystogan, he travels outside all year round. Does he use a magic staff? Does he specialize in sleep magic?" Everit asked.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Wendy became excited.
"That's right. Mystogan is part of our guild, a powerful wizard who excels in sleep magic and has achieved S-rank. He's as strong as Erza," Everit said. "Despite being quiet and shy, he's actually a very gentle person."
"So, it's Mystogan..." Wendy breathed a sigh of relief. Mystogan, described by Everit, was the brother she had in mind.
"So, don't worry." Everit took out a pillow and two blankets.
He spread a blanket on the ground and said, "Don't sit on the ground. Sit on this blanket. You're dressed lightly. What if you catch a cold?"
Everit continued, "We're not as tough as Natsu, Gray, and the others—Natsu always exposes his belly, and Gray hardly wears any clothes."
"So, when you have the chance, take care of yourself."
"Thank you, Mr. Everit." Wendy dusted herself off and sat on the blanket.
"Lean against this, it's comfortable." Everit placed the pillow against the wall and leaned on it.
Wendy was speechless. She looked outside the iron gate and saw a dark wizard standing guard.
"Don't worry, they're using us as bait to lure our friends into causing trouble for them," Everit said. "They won't attack us for now."
In fact, he had already defeated the Oración Seiss.
Now those unlucky seven are being coerced by Everit to take drugs and stick to the plan.
The dark wizard outside the door is just a front.
"How can I not worry?" Wendy couldn't grasp the deception, and Everit's words only made her more anxious.
"Don't worry, we have Natsu and Gray. They may be rookies in civil wars but they're veterans in foreign conflicts."
"Mr. Natsu is indeed very strong," Wendy said.
"And we have S-class wizards like Erza, Ichiya, and Jura as well."
"Yeah," Wendy nodded, though her heart still harbored worries. After all, the Oración Seiss and the Former Wizard Saint were renowned figures. With such a lineup, even their guild master would find it challenging to confront them.
Wendy fell silent for a moment, observing Everit leaning against the pillow, wrapped in a second blanket, engrossed in a book.
"He seems completely calm," she thought.
Reflecting on his power, she remembered his solo attack on the Oración Seiss' hideout and his prolonged battle against seven formidable wizards before succumbing. Alone, he might have bested any one of them.
People said Mr. Everit was a brilliant strategist. Perhaps he already had a plan.
With this realization, Wendy relaxed slightly and moved closer to Everit, leaning against the pillow beside him.
"Wendy, how about some hotpot?" Everit suddenly produced a table.
Wendy was at a loss for words. "Mr. Everit, you're remarkably calm!"
She glanced outside to see the dark mage seemingly indifferent, as if unconcerned.
"Perhaps Mr. Everit is revered as a strong individual after all," Wendy pondered.
Boom!
Everit brought out various ingredients and set up an energy-fueled hotpot, using a card beneath the pot to maintain heat through magical input.
Before long, the broth began to simmer.
"Don't worry. A full stomach and good hydration will give you strength for the fight," Everit said, presenting two sets of bowls and chopsticks.
Wendy caught a whiff of the enticing aroma, swallowed, and finally reached out to join him.
