In a cabin adorned with peculiar ornaments and cast in dim light:
Juvia held a bottle that emanated an ominous aura, her gaze questioning its utility. "Does this truly work?"
"Absolutely," assured the enigmatic mage seated across the table, a confident grin playing on their lips.
"With just a few drops, it causes the other party to only look at you affectionately. But, it comes at a price—a hefty 60,000 J."
Juvia pondered for a moment.
This establishment seemed reputable enough. Its array of magical artifacts appeared genuinely practical. Unlike Everit's shop, which seldom offered potions with such effects.
"I'll take it," Juvia declared resolutely.
Gray-sama, cease your attention towards Everit and redirect it to Juvia, please!
Lucy sighed in boredom, her form sprawled across the table. "This is dreadfully dull."
"Then take on some task," chuckled Mirajane, busying herself with dishware.
"But Everit has coerced Natsu and Gray into yet another fishing excursion," Lucy lamented.
Neither she nor Juvia harbored much interest in fishing. Even Ikaruga seemed content lately to linger in Everit's shop, engrossed in novels and imparting Everit's swordsmanship to Emily.
Granted, his swordplay paled in comparison to Ikaruga's, hence she assumed the role of instructor in that domain.
"Everit's elated ever since he snared that three-kilograms catch," Mirajane sighed, her tone tinged with resignation.
"Yet Natsu mentioned his recent hauls have been meager—a mere fish or two the size of one's palm," Lucy added.
"Hmm," Mirajane chuckled, "Fishing truly eludes Everit's grasp. That's precisely why he's enamored with it; the challenge it poses to him is rare indeed."
Lucy sighed once more.
Setting aside the dishware, Mirajane approached Lucy, suggesting, "Wouldn't it be prudent for you to undertake missions solo? There's an abundance you could tackle alone."
"But I can't just leave Natsu behind," Lucy countered.
"Ah, I see," Mirajane teased knowingly. "Is Lucy destined to forever team up with Natsu on missions?"
Lucy blushed furiously, flustered by Mirajane's implication. "N-no, Miss Mira, please don't say such things."
"Is it that peculiar?" Mirajane tilted her head, amusement dancing in her eyes. "Might Lucy consider a different partner in the future?"
Lucy faltered, unsure how to respond.
"Perhaps Gray?" Mirajane suggested.
"No!" Juvia interjected vehemently.
Lucy, rendered momentarily speechless, managed, "No, don't worry."
"What about Elfman?" Mirajane prodded, her tone playful.
"." Lucy glanced at the request board where Elfman and Evergreen were debating which job to take. The two were standing close, their camaraderie evident.
Lucy shook her head. "No," she muttered to herself.
"Is Laxus an option?" Mirajane asked casually.
"I wouldn't dare suggest it," Lucy replied immediately, a slight edge in her tone.
"So," Mirajane continued with a knowing smile, "it's just Natsu then."
Lucy fell silent, contemplating Mirajane's observation.
"Isn't there someone else?" Juvia interjected, her gaze shifting to Mirajane.
"Everit?"
Mirajane's smile turned faint.
"I decline," Lucy asserted firmly.
"Ahh," Mirajane chuckled, "Everit's out of the picture then."
"Not exactly, but teaming up with him would be too risky," Lucy explained, her experience in the guild giving her insight into Everit's unpredictable nature.
"We've all seen what he's capable of—when there's trouble, he's dependable; but when there's none, he's a wildcard!"
Even Erza struggled to rein him in. It seemed no one in the guild could fully tame Everit.
"True," Mirajane agreed softly, "but I wonder what Natsu will think."
Lucy mulled over Mirajane's words in silence.
Seeing Lucy's contemplative expression, Mirajane grinned knowingly. "Want me to find out for you?"
"No, that's alright," Lucy hastily declined, fearing Natsu's unexpected response. It was better not to stir things up.
"I have faith in him," Mirajane reassured with a smile, "Natsu's answer will surely satisfy you, Lucy."
Lucy hesitated, unsure.
"Shall I ask Gray for you, Juvia?" Mirajane turned to Juvia.
"Forget it," Juvia shook her head vigorously, self-awareness tingling. She dreaded the possibility of Gray choosing Everit as his partner—it was an answer she didn't want to hear.
Later that evening,
Lucy strolled along the riverside, lost in thought.
Would Natsu choose her as his partner?
She couldn't predict the outcome or even what she hoped for.
If Natsu refused, how would she navigate their current dynamic?
And if he agreed, what did it signify?
She pondered Mirajane's words and the fates of Bisca and Evergreen.
If they continued as partners, would their story echo theirs?
"Dang Dang"
The sound of wedding bells echoed in the air as she stood adorned in a resplendent wedding gown, her arm intertwined with Natsu's.
"Ah-"
Her exclamation cut through her unfounded daydream.
"Miss Lucy, what's the matter?" inquired a passing boatman with kindness.
"Nothing," Lucy replied hastily.
"Must be love troubles," the boatman remarked to his companion. "It's always about love."
Lucy blushed and hastily fled upon hearing this remark.
"Hahaha—" laughter followed her as she hurried away.
Lucy sprinted all the way home. Upon opening the door, she found the lights ablaze inside.
"Hey, Lucy!" Natsu and Happy greeted simultaneously from the sofa, raising their hands.
"Ah," Lucy sighed, already accustomed to their antics. "Caught a bunch of fish today, didn't you?"
"Yep," Natsu affirmed, "I got twenty-three!"
"I caught thirty-seven!" Happy chimed in.
"Where's Everit?" Lucy inquired.
"Hahahaha—" Happy burst into laughter.
Natsu joined in, saying, "That dunce was munching on potato chips, and when the fish took the bait, he hesitated, trying to switch hands between the chip and the rod. Ended up letting the fish take off with his rod! Walked away with it! Haha, what a goof!"
"Well, that's... not entirely surprising, I suppose," Lucy muttered, momentarily at a loss for words.
The eccentricities of her guildmates never ceased to amaze her.
"Snoring—"
The sound of snoring filled the room, and Lucy turned to find Natsu and Happy already sprawled out on the sofa, fast asleep.
"So quick!" Lucy grumbled, though it was to be expected. The two of them had an enviable knack for falling asleep anywhere.
She tucked them in with a blanket before attempting to leave, only for Natsu to grab her wrist.
"Lucy," Natsu murmured in his sleep, "Let's go on a mission together!"
Lucy blinked, momentarily taken aback.
