章節 82: Chapter 80 : Thief??

Everit was just as excited as he was during his last visit, if not more. There were games, shops, and countless things to do, each offering a new experience to enjoy.

"Natsu, Natsu, come and try this!" Lucy called out, grabbing Natsu's arm and dragging him toward one of the bustling stalls.

This is a booth where you can win prizes by shooting targets with a toy gun.

Everyone was lining up, and there was a bit of a wait. Several couples were in front of them. The men were holding the toy guns, aiming at the targets.

If they hit, the women would cheer and laugh; if they missed, the women would give them playful punches on the arm.

Juvia watched intently, her eyes sparkling. She thought, if she acted like that, maybe Gray-sama would notice her more!

Everit, a bystander, turned to see Erza staring at the top prize with fierce determination in her eyes.

Finally, it was Natsu and Lucy's turn. They paid the fee and were handed toy guns.

"Natsu, which prize do you want?" Lucy asked, curious.

Natsu looked at her with his usual grin. "I'm not sure. You can choose, Lucy."

Lucy seemed a bit surprised but was also pleased. "Oh, well, I'd like that one!" She pointed to a large stuffed animal.

"Got it!" Natsu said, giving a thumbs-up. He took aim, but it was tricky—the toy bullets had very little power, so it took a few tries to knock over the target.

Meanwhile, Gray turned to Juvia and asked, "Juvia, which prize would you like?"

Juvia was taken aback, blushing slightly. "Really, Gray-sama? Um, I'll take that one, please," she said, pointing at a blue plush doll.

"No problem," Gray replied with confidence. He had a good eye, but the same issue with the weak bullets persisted.

"Everit, can you help me win that one?" asked Happy, pointing at a cute cat plushie.

"Sure, no problem," Everit replied with a nod.

Then, suddenly, there was a coughing sound from nearby, followed by a voice complaining, "Hey, old man, watch it!"

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," replied the older man apologetically.

Everit turned to see what was happening. It was an elderly man in a white shirt. He had coughed without a handkerchief, just using his hand to block it. This annoyed some passersby, who didn't appreciate the sudden interruption.

Overall, everyone was having fun at the shooting booth, trying to win prizes, but sometimes unexpected things could happen.

The man who had been bumped into muttered under his breath, not wanting to cause any more trouble. He took a detour, deciding to leave the area without further incident.

"I'm sorry," the elderly man apologized again, his voice soft and full of remorse.

The old man noticed the way Everit was looking at him. He glanced back at Everit and nodded with a friendly smile before quickly slipping into the crowd and vanishing from sight.

"Everit, what's wrong?" Happy asked, noticing his friend seemed lost in thought.

"That man... he's Edward," Everit replied. "He's like our guild master, a remarkable person."

Happy shrugged, his curiosity quickly fading. "I don't know him," he said, dismissing the topic. Edward was a common name, but the person Everit just saw was anything but ordinary.

Everit recognized him because, as a child, he'd often accompanied his adoptive father to meet Edward Adrian, who was once the mayor of Lugitan Town.

Edward was known for his capabilities and had a great reputation—he'd done a lot of good for the town, with no dark rumors following him.

Everit's grandfather had admired Edward greatly, which is why Everit was taken aback to see the old man here, in a place far from his usual stomping grounds.

Why would Edward Adrian be in a place like this? Everit was puzzled.

"Everit, it's our turn," Erza reminded him, bringing him back to reality.

"Right, sorry."

Everit focused on the game before him. Shooting targets with a toy gun was hardly a challenge for him, thanks to his magic skills.

By the end of it, everyone in their group was smiling. Even the game booth's owner, who typically lost money when skilled people played, seemed unfazed. The crowd their performance attracted more than made up for it.

A distant rumble echoed across the sky.

"Is that thunder?" Happy asked, looking up. "Do you think it's going to rain tonight?"

"It looks like it's going to rain. We should head back to the hotel quickly."

Pedestrians on the street seemed a little anxious as dark clouds gathered overhead.

However, Everit and the rest of the group didn't rush; they weren't far from the hotel, and they knew they could make it before the rain started.

When they reached the hotel, the rain hadn't begun yet. They took the opportunity to freshen up and then gathered in one of the rooms.

Erza took charge of the sleeping arrangements. The men would sleep on the left, the women on the right, with Happy curled up in the middle.

It hadn't been long after everyone lay down when Natsu and Gray started snoring loudly.

Everyone, except Juvia, was accustomed to their noisy sleeping habits.

But just as they were getting comfortable, a commotion erupted in the hallway.

"Come out, come out!"

Shouts and loud knocks echoed through the corridor, growing closer to their room. Soon, the pounding on Everit's door became impossible to ignore.

"Quick inspection! Everyone inside, come out!" came a gruff voice from outside.

There was a loud bang at the door, and a faint 'click' as Erza unlocked it. She opened the door to find a group of soldiers standing outside, accompanied by a mage in black robes.

Erza glanced into the corridor and saw that the other hotel guests had also been forced out of their rooms, regardless of what they were doing.

"Everyone out! Your rooms are going to be searched!" the lead soldier announced with a stern expression.

Everit and the others climbed out of bed and stepped into the corridor.

"Are you all mages?" the mage in the black robes asked with a skeptical tone.

"Fairy Tail," Erza replied confidently. As a proud member of the Fairy Tail guild, she saw no reason to hide it.

The black-robed wizard spoke with a more amicable tone: "I've heard great things about you. Unfortunately, a wizard broke into the mayor's mansion and stole a large sum of money. The mayor is furious, so he's locked down the city and sent soldiers to search everywhere. I apologize for waking you up in the middle of the night, but I hope you understand."

"It's fine," Erza replied, nodding. But she added a stern warning: "Just be sure you don't cause any damage or disturb our belongings."

"Of course," the wizard said, visibly relieved by her response.

As the soldiers entered, they seemed to understand the situation. They simply walked through without causing any disruption, then exited quietly.

"My apologies for the disturbance. Please, go back to your rest," the wizard said before leaving with the soldiers.

Everyone returned to the room.

"Looks like something's going on," Erza remarked with her usual calm demeanor.

"Talk about bad luck," Everit sighed.

"Breaking into the mayor's house to steal money? That takes guts!" Happy exclaimed, amazed at the audacity.

Gray, however, was more skeptical.

"Think about it. Someone with the power to pull that off probably doesn't need money. And if they did, the mayor's mansion seems like an odd choice, don't you think?" he analyzed coolly.
