In a dark underground passage, the sound of footsteps echoed through the corridor, accompanied by murmuring voices.
"The magical devices have been upgraded. We can now use magic feedback to communicate, completely bypassing the restrictions of the five senses."
"He killed Patrick in such a short time. That Everit is incredibly dangerous."
"We have to eliminate this threat to maintain peace!"
"Destroy! Destroy!"
"The deception magic will soon be mine!"
Unlike the last time when the train tracks were destroyed, this mission didn't require as much urgency. The group had a few days to spare before setting off.
Everit and the others made their way toward their target: Ahhanita Town. They were going there to attend the Alex Machine Exhibition.
This time, there would be more than just three people going.
Since Everit had scouted the area beforehand, he knew there were plenty of places to shop and sightsee in Ahhanita Town, so he agreed to Natsu and Juvia's request to join.
Natsu grinned broadly. "Let's take Lucy along!"
Juvia pleaded, "Please, Mr. Everit, can I come too?"
"Sure," Everit agreed without hesitation.
Erza chimed in, "Ahhanita Town? I've heard it's pretty cool. I think I'll tag along."
And so, in addition to the original three, the party expanded to include Erza, Lucy, and Juvia. It was shaping up to be quite the trip.
Before getting in the car, Natsu and Happy were still buzzing with excitement, chanting, "Robot—I am a robot—" in unison. Their energy was high, but everyone knew that getting into a vehicle was bound to be trouble for Natsu.
Once they were in the car, the mood shifted. Natsu was lying across Lucy's lap, his face turning a shade of green. "Ugh," he groaned, clutching his stomach.
"Natsu, please don't throw up on me! I just bought these clothes!" Lucy exclaimed, her voice laced with concern and annoyance.
Gray glanced over at the struggling Natsu and shook his head. "Transportation sickness," he muttered to himself, used to his guildmate's travel-induced distress.
The seating arrangement was straightforward: Natsu and Lucy shared a row, while Gray sat with Everit.
Across the aisle, Juvia was seated next to Erza, but she kept sneaking glances at Gray, clutching her handkerchief in frustration. If only she could be sitting next to her beloved Gray-sama!
While Juvia sulked, Everit was shuffling a deck of cards. He held one between his fingers and asked Gray, "Wanna play some cards?"
"Sure," Gray replied, intrigued by the cards' intricate design.
Everit expertly spun the card on his fingertip, and with a quick motion, it turned into a complete deck. Lucy, curious about Everit's magic, asked, "I've seen you using cards to pull out all sorts of things. How does it work?"
"It's kind of like Requip magic," Everit explained, giving a casual nod.
"Is it magic or not magic?" Lucy asked, half-jokingly.
Everit shot her a serious look. "This is magic," he declared with conviction.
Lucy went quiet, unsure how to respond. Gray, noticing the tension, chimed in with a grin, "Everit's good at drinking, fishing, and magic. Quite the combo."
Everit insisted, "I'm telling you, Gray, it's true!"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say. Just deal the cards already," Gray replied, a little impatient.
Everit then started to show off with some intricate card shuffling moves. It was the first time Lucy had seen anyone shuffle cards like that, and she couldn't help but exclaim in awe.
"Alright, let's get on with it. Just deal," Gray said, clearly used to Everit's tricks.
"Tch, you're ruining the vibe," Everit complained but eventually stopped his showmanship and began dealing the cards.
Everit wasn't especially lucky, but his card skills were sharp, though he wasn't the type to cheat. It was like fishing—it's more fun when you rely on skill and get pleasantly surprised by what you catch.
But something was off today, which became apparent after half an hour of playing.
Everit leaned back and pulled his hat over his face. "Man, I'm tired."
Lucy stifled a giggle, trying not to laugh too loudly.
"Lucy, I don't want to play with you ever again," Happy grumbled, turning to face the wall in a huff.
"What? I'm sorry, Happy," Lucy quickly apologized.
"Lucy, you're such a dummy." Happy's voice was tinged with frustration, and it seemed like he was holding back tears.
Gray looked at his hand of cards, then at the cards Everit had thrown on the table. Without a word, he quietly laid his cards down.
Across the room, Juvia bit down hard on her handkerchief, getting it soaked.
She couldn't believe that Gray hadn't won a single game.
Oh, Lucy! Why must you ruin everything?
She thought to herself, "Gray-sama, come play with Juvia. I'll make sure you win!"
Fairy Tail Guild, evening.
Laxus stood in front of the mission board, scanning the available jobs with a keen eye.
"Laxus, are you looking to take on a mission?" Freed asked, approaching him with a curious expression.
"Yeah," Laxus replied with a nod.
"Sorry, I can't join you this time. My injury hasn't fully healed," Freed said with a hint of disappointment in his voice.
"Doesn't matter," Laxus replied as he focused on a particular commission on the board.
Freed glanced at the mission and read it out loud, "Assist the client in gathering evidence on the Ahhanita family's suspected embezzlement and illegal imprisonment of civilians. Client: Edward Adrian."
"Ahhanita?" Freed frowned. "Isn't that the wealthy business family responsible for developing Ahhanita Town? It's become quite a popular tourist spot recently, known all over the country."
"Yeah," Laxus confirmed with a slight nod.
Freed's concern was clear. "This isn't going to be an easy task. The Ahhanita family is powerful, and they probably have a lot of strong people on their payroll."
Without hesitation, Laxus tore the commission from the board with a sharp rip.
"Good luck, Laxus," Freed said, watching his friend prepare to leave.
