章節 4: The Magic Potential Test II

After Adall's aunt finished explaining what to do for the first test, he headed towards the first device and placed his hand on the sphere. He then closed his eyes and made sure to remain perfectly still.

After a few seconds of waiting, a reaction was noticed from the sphere. It emitted a dazzling light that filled the entire room before disappearing the next moment, leaving only the magical circle inside active.

Adall didn't really understand what this phenomenon meant, but those in the adjacent room knew all too well.

Axelle was the first to speak among the observers.

"So, a [MANA]-type magic circuit!"

Her voice expressed enthusiasm about the situation they were experiencing.

"Let's not jump to conclusions just yet, dear sister. It could very well be a [UNIVERSAL] magic circuit," replied Zackael, also wearing a contemplative expression.

"A [UNIVERSAL] magic circuit is far too rare, Zackael. Let's be content with what we have."

While they argued about Adall's magic circuit, Mickael had a pensive expression that went unnoticed. It was as if he foresaw all the implications of this news and felt it wasn't a good thing for his son.

However, he quickly pushed aside his thoughts to regain his usual expression.

After a few more seconds of banter between Axelle and Zackael, Mickael brought them back to order, and the evaluation continued.

"Well done, Adall! Now, you'll move on to the second device and do the same thing."

Axelle passed on new instructions to Adall, who still had his right hand placed on the sphere, eyes closed.

As soon as he heard this, Adall withdrew his hand, causing the light emitted by the magical circle inside the sphere atop the first evaluation device to disappear.

He then turned to the second device and advanced. It only took a few steps to reach it, and as before, he placed his hand against the object atop the pillar and closed his eyes.

10 seconds...

30 seconds...

3 minutes...

7 minutes...

Even with his hand on the octahedron and remaining still as before, nothing happened.

Adall then opened one eye to look around, wondering what was wrong. Last time, the process hadn't taken this long. Plus, when he had placed his hand on the sphere atop the first evaluation device, he had felt a slight warmth emanating from it. Obviously, that wasn't happening now.

What Adall didn't know was that this test had already been completed long ago, but instead of informing him, his observers were busy bickering. Indeed, after the first minute without response, it was obvious that Adall didn't possess a magic circuit compatible with the aura.

The first device determined if the evaluated person possessed a [MANA]-type magic circuit. The second device, on the other hand, proved the presence of an [AURA]-type magic circuit.

An individual activating both devices would then have a [UNIVERSAL] magic circuit.

Adall only managed to activate the first device, so he obviously possesses a [MANA]-type magic circuit.

In the observation room, a discussion was taking place as Adall kept his hand on the octahedron.

"So, what did I tell you?" exclaimed Axelle before adding with a smile, "you owe me a vacation home now."

She was addressing Zackael, with whom she had made a bet before the start of this test. The latter had hypothesized that Adall might possess a [UNIVERSAL] magic circuit.

"Yes! Yes! I get it," said Zackael, then he turned to Mickael.

An action that didn't go unnoticed.

"I really can't help you on this one, Zackael," said Mickael after noticing his brother's insistent gaze on him.

"How dare you call for Mickael's help, Zackael?" Axelle had a victorious look as she spoke.

The discussion was still ongoing when Adall grew impatient and opened one eye in the middle of the examination. After noticing movements in the evaluation room, the observers decided to put their ongoing discussion on hold and proceed with the evaluation.

There was only one test left: the magic sensitivity test.

If the type of magic circuit determined a person's preferred domain, magic sensitivity provided the opportunity to predict the highest level a person could reach in the future during evaluation.

Indeed, whether it was aura or magic, different levels of mastery existed, counted by stars for warriors and by circles for magicians. In total, there were 10 levels.

Warriors' progression ranged from 1 to 10 stars, while a magician could form up to 10 magic circles around their core by accumulating mana in their body over the years.

According to some writings and rumors, there might exist an eleventh level, but the stories describing it date back so far in the past that everyone agrees they are certainly fables.

Magic sensitivity is evaluated with the third device present in the room where Adall was. As with the two previous tests, all he had to do was place his hand on the mana cube and let it do the rest.

Which he did quite quickly. But contrary to the reaction expected by the child, he was faced with a completely different phenomenon.

As soon as he placed his hand on the cube's surface, it began to shine with a much more dazzling light than the sphere of the first test device.

Adall's natural reaction was to cover his eyes with his other free hand. He kept them closed for a few seconds before opening them to find that he was no longer in the evaluation room. Or at least, that's what the immediate environment he observed led him to believe...
