"Certainly," I replied curtly, and the woman looked at Maverick, probably looking for help to understand what I was trying to say or do here. 

I sighed. 

Nodding at Maverick to let him know I was feeling fine, I sat on the couch in the room.

"You have appeared here to help me because you know that the devil has met me. Where were you when he took me?" I asked. 

"My love," Maverick started, but I shook my head at him.

"Don't you see it, Maverick? These people are nowhere to be found when we need them. However, they magically appear to give us some kind of lecture and pity and show us they are on our side, but when we look for help, we are alone. It's all a facade," I told him.

He immediately stopped talking.
