VALENCIA'S POV

'I am sorry. I was just trying to protect you. You...' Aurora whispered before tears brimmed her eyes.

My pupils dilated. 

This was the first time she was tearing up for something, and a part of me felt unrelieved.

I wanted to console her, but I couldn't bring myself to say it was okay because it wasn't.

After a quick shower, I dressed and walked out of the bathroom.

Maverick was sitting on the couch with a laptop before him as he talked to someone over the call. 

He was so immersed in his work that he didn't even gaze up. 

I felt guilty for holding up so much of his time and putting him in a difficult position.

With a sigh, I was about to speak when he suddenly looked up and smiled at me dazzlingly, making my heart skip a beat. 

What was Maverick smiling for? He should be annoyed with me for all I care.
