章節 16: Chaoter 16 : The city lord temptation

"There was once a sincere relationship in front of me, but I didn't cherish it. It wasn't until I lost it that I regretted it." This sentiment likely echoed in Yu Xiaogang's mind. While he may not have undervalued his emotions, the matter of Wuhun likely held greater significance for him than his personal feelings.

"Tang San..." wanted to express something, but Yu Xiaogang's cold demeanor silenced him as the teacher walked away towards the academy.

This left Tang San feeling embarrassed. He had intended to share the information from the third picture with his teacher to assuage his guilt. Yet, seeing Yu Xiaogang's attitude made Tang San doubt his teacher's reliability. Shouldn't all teachers be protective?

Tang San's habitual thought process couldn't comprehend this situation. The ways of the jianghu (martial arts world) people couldn't seamlessly integrate into the culture of the Douluo Continent, where royal authority, legality, transcendence, and bureaucracy coexisted.

"Tang San, right? If it weren't for Xiaogang's sake, you'd be out of here!" Dean Wu scowled at Tang San before departing. He blamed Tang San for his dismissal by City Master Xiao over some deceit.

"Unlucky!" Dean Wu grumbled as he entered the academy, resolving to discuss the matter with City Master Xiao later to salvage the academy's reputation.

In Tang San's heart, frustration, anger, and unwillingness lingered. He couldn't comprehend why he was willing to go to great lengths to help his teacher, only to be treated poorly in return.

This was a perplexing question for Tang San, a young man shaped by martial arts principles.

Tang San proceeded to class with a heavy heart.

As Tang San left, Jiang Yi, holding a mirror, entered the street. To avoid any retaliatory actions from Tang San in his agitated state, Jiang Yi decided to keep his distance for now.

It would be easy for Jiang Yi, with his soul power reaching level 15, to deal with Tang San if necessary.

Certain conditions would trigger the transformation of energy from the Tarot cards into soul power and spirituality. Though Jiang Yi couldn't discern these conditions precisely, he sensed the energy subtly changing into soul power and spirituality whenever he performed divination.

The morning passed uneventfully for Jiang Yi. Returning to his stall, he prepared for customers.

Most residents of Notting City didn't return for divination, lacking the spare Gintama coins. And those wealthy enough to consider divination were likely occupied with recent tumultuous events.

As vendors filled the street, Jiang Yi examined the hidden sword Tang San had left behind. The weapon still possessed considerable power, making it valuable to ordinary folk.

If Jiang Yi could divine the perfect casting and installation process of the Hidden Blade, Tang San might be exonerated.

The idea sparked excitement in Jiang Yi's eyes.

With Tang San already brandishing his sword, Jiang Yi couldn't afford to sit idly by.

As he contemplated his next move, Jiang Yi heard approaching footsteps.

Putting away the hidden sword, Jiang Yi waited patiently.

A young woman, likely in her twenties, approached him anxiously. She sought assistance in locating her lover.

"Of course. Do you have something that belongs to him?" Jiang Yi inquired.

The woman presented a belt, and after negotiating the price, Jiang Yi proceeded with the divination.

The belt burned gradually, revealing a picture on the mirror: a crotch with a man hiding in a corner.

"Do you recognize this scene?" Jiang Yi asked the woman, puzzled by the nature of the divination.

The woman, clearly flustered, assured Jiang Yi that she would find her lover soon, leaving him with more questions than answers.

Jiang Yi shrugged, accepting the gold soul coin left behind, and resumed his vigil for the next customer.

Meanwhile, at the City Lord's Mansion, the woman entered discreetly.

"Stop hiding. The test is over. That young man truly has extraordinary abilities," she declared, prompting a man to emerge, holding his nose.

The two proceeded to the most luxurious room in the mansion.

City Master Xiao, upon receiving the report, nodded with satisfaction. He had never believed in divination until now.
