67.64% Leveling with the Regressor in Apocalypse / Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Real reason or self justification?

章節 23: Chapter 23: Real reason or self justification?

Kim Seojin could feel that there was something more to this Trial. It was to show the spectators something spectacular.

If they all killed a few Vampires, it could definitely help them get a good score and pass this stage. He could also keep his rank and even receive first rank rewards.

But he didn't feel like it was spectacular enough for his first performance that was being watched. He needed something similar to a Unique Achievement that he received before.

The Tutorial Stage was said to be the most rewarding stage for everyone who awakened. The true hell only came after that.

Was clearing this stage the normal way really the best he could use it?

'If they want a show, I need to give them something that will make them rise up from their seats...'

'Killing the most Vampires is definitely a good way, but that's not good enough. I need to bring this entire city to its knees, and I do have an idea for that.'

'But the main problem is, how should I convince Lee Taehyung to help me? If I just tell him the truth, he might refuse. So do I need to tug at his emotions?'

Seojin glanced at the Regressor next to him, who was looking back at him.

Lee Taehyung was surprised by Seojin's response.

He had thought that the guy was wise enough to know what was best for him, and that's why he was trying to get close to him.

Why was he deciding to go a separate way now? As long as he worked with him, Seojin could keep his rank. But he wanted to do something else?

"Aren't you overestimating your abilities? You want to kill Vampires without my help? Even if you can kill many, your score still might not catch up to others."

"I'm not going to kill the Vampires. No matter how many we kill here, there are just too many of them. They will never stop. This hell will keep existing."

"You are not going to kill the Vampires?"

Lee Taehyung was properly stunned this time. Just what was this guy thinking? Killing Vampires was the most rewarding in this place.

Not only could they level up for the first time, but they could also get a high score. And he was thinking about something else?

"If possible, I don't want to leave this city be. This isn't the modern City that it looks like from the outside. Beneath the glitter of fancy tech, this is just a sea of suffering."

Kim Seojin knew that there was some truth to his words. But he also knew that he wasn't strong enough to achieve his goal.

He was even weaker than Lee Taehyung. One wrong step and he could die while enacting his plan.

Despite all that, he didn't want to give up. If he was scared now, could he really survive in the future?

He didn't want to kill the Vampires only. No, he wanted to bring this entire city to its knees! And there was only one way to do that.

"I know that if we make mistakes, we will die. The chances of success are close to none. But if we don't change things in the present, how can we expect the future to change?"

"The world after the apocalypse had changed. It's assimilated in the God's Domain. The way humans thought, the way they did things, everything is different now. But still, there are a few things that we shouldn't lose."

"I know that it's not beneficial to you. It might even bring your scores down compared to others. But still, I believe I need to do this. And for that, I need your help."

"Will you help me free the humans and let them leave this city?"

Seojin earnestly asked Lee Taehyung, who found it even more absurd.

If the humans of the city were allowed to leave, the entire city could truly come down to its knees.

The City would have no choice but to attack the neighbouring cities to capture more humans. In the end, the Streamers of the other city would have no choice but to take action and kill the Vampires.

This small action... It had large consequences. Kim Seojin was basically creating a new arc in the God's Domain of Earth that didn't exist in the last few regressions that he went through.

As for the scores, he didn't worry about that. If they could actually succeed, the amount of rewards was definitely going to be way more than killing the Vampires.

Even the Judges would have found this absurd but entertaining.

He didn't know if Seojin truly looked that far in the future, but in any case, this was an idea that even he hadn't thought about in the past.

There was also that one sentence from Seojin that was stuck in his mind.

"If we don't change the present, how can we expect the future to change..." Lee Taehyung repeated as he lowered his head, the corner of his lips lifting in a knowing smile.

'Is this the reason I failed so many times to stop the end? Because I'm not like him?'

It was a simple yet profound statement that resonated with him deeply. It was as if he wasn't here to help Seojin, but the other way around.

"You know that you might die if you fail? There is no second chance."

"I know. But who says I plan to die? I want to succeed! No, I will succeed! I will reach the stage where I can change the entire system of this God's Domain. A stage where humans would no longer have to be puppets!"

"Big words for someone who hasn't even cleared the Tutorial. Aren't you afraid of biting your tongue with such large words?"

"From what I know about this world, death comes even faster if you are scared. So what is the point of being scared? If we are putting our lives on the line, we might as well do it in style!"

"You... You are truly a fool." Lee Taehyung scratched the back of his head, almost holding back his laughter.

"But I agreed to help you this one time. So I will help you with this absurd plan! We will do it! We will rob the Vampires of a million humans from right under their noses!"

Seojin looked at Lee Taehyung with gratitude. Even if the man had died so many times, he hadn't lost his sanity and emotions. He was still more human than the ones who lived in this world.

Although Seojin did not tell his true reasons to Lee Taehyung, most of his words did come from his heart. He hadn't lied. He did believe this world needed a change.

The only difference was that he might not have attempted it if there was no potential reward, especially since it put his life on the line.

Even he himself didn't know if reward was actually the reason he wanted to do it, or if this was just the self justification he made for his actions.

"Stop looking at me like that, I'm straight."

Kim Seojin snapped back to his senses, hearing Lee Taehyung's sarcastic response.

Pah~

Seojin spat out in disgust.

"Stop talking nonsense! I am straight as well. I was just about to thank you!"

"Keep your thanks for now. Give it to me when we leave this city. Though I'm also curious to see if we can even leave this city with this absurd plan, or if we will die in style."

"B positive, just like my blood group. We will definitely succeed."

"What era is that joke from? I feel cringe down my soul just from hearing that."

"You just don't have a good sense of humour. It's understandable."

"If I will also say such cringe jokes after having a good sense of humour, then I'm good without it."

"Sigh, it's truly lonely being at the top of Comedy. People can't understand my greatness."

"Tell these jokes to the Vampires. Even they would die from cringe. It might make things easier for us."
