Bel smiled at him. Davien straightened his back and changed the cloth on her forehead. "You should get some rest because of this." He ran a finger over her lips, and Bel did her best not to react. "You can't eat either, so you need to conserve your strength." He moved his hand to her shoulder and squeezed. "I can't believe I let you go through something as horrible as that."
Bel wanted to tell him none of this was his fault and that she was glad he didn't abandon her, even though she clearly deserved it. So all she did was shake her head. He smiled tightly, and she knew he didn't get what she meant.
He took the cloth from her forehead. "That should be enough for now," he said and slowly stood to his feet. "I will give you some time alone."
Bel wanted to protest, but she simply nodded. Things were quite awkward between them, and it didn't help that she couldn't speak. "I will be right outside," he mumbled.
