章節 15: Chapter 15: Interrogation
The old man ignores the blue haired man and grabs Karl by his neck. Lifting him along with the chair. Karl gaspes for air.
"Barret. Stop now. This isn't your palace. You are under the federation roof, I have every right to kill you right here now." The blue haired man threatens the old man.
The already fallen employee tries to plead, "C-Chief, save that innocent boy."
The chief nods and slashes in the air. An arc of water is forms from those slashes and flews towards the old man, Barret.
Just as the attack is about to reach Barret, a wall of earth emerges from the ground below. Blocking the attack. "If you want to grab my attention you need to try harder." Barret's grip on Karl's neck tightens.
Karl's vision blacks out.
"I didn't know that almighty low level knight Barret is doing so much to kill a single kid." Chief taunts as a blue circle appears on his left palm.
"I am going to kill this lowly peasant for hurting my kin." Barret declares.
"Is that so?" Chief's hand moves and dozens of water blades are formed behind him. Barret rises his wall onces again to block the blades. The water blades flews into the wall. Chief runs towards Barret with his short sword in his hand. Barret sees this and summons his own small rocks and throws them at Chief.
On the other side, chief doesn't back out or tries to block the blade. He runs straight at Barret, deflecting every single rock with his short sword. Once close enough, he tries to stab Barret into his chest. The old man releases his Karl and tries to block the short sword. Under a second, a layer of hard earth is formed on Barret's hand.
He blocks the sword but underestimates the strength behind it. Sparks appears and an irritating sound metal clashing against a hard rock comes. The sound stops as the blade cuts through the rocks, cutting the whole hand off. Chief jumps back and grabs Karl, he touches Karl's chest.
BA-DUMP, BA-DUMP.
'Still alive, good.'
"Why do you want to stand in my way? I am just doing WHAT IS RIGHT." Barret screams. Blood is dripping non stop from his hand with his wrist bone exposed.
"Right? This is how knights are supposed to behave with public? You trained for this?"
"Shut up! You don't know nothing. It is my duty to bring my knighthood's respect back." Barret summons a shield made of hard rock and jumps at chief.
Chief doesn't back down and stops the attack. "I know that the other knights in the block made fun of your knighthood. Your authority. Your legacy. You felt bad, but this is how you will restore it? By killing a kid?" Chief points at the unconscious Karl.
Barret overwhelms Chief and pushes him back. "He isn't a kid, he is a criminal." Chief summons a water trident and throws it at Barret, breaking the shield.
"There isn't no chance that such frail looking kid defeated your granddaughter and injured her." This sentence caughts Barret off guard and makes him think.
Taking advantage of this, Chief quickly tackles Barret in the face and pins him on the ground. The old man struggles but stops as he sees dozens of people in black suit standing at the door. All ready to attack.
"Calm down and leave this upto federation to decide?"
After an unknown amount of time. Karl wakes up in a hospital bed. 'Like I said, this life of mine is full of hospital beds.'
The first thing Karl did was to check his leg. It was packed in bandages but it was there. This relieves Karl. He looks at his watch and still sees the same red screen. Somehow he manages to get up. Looking around he sees various decorations and furniture,
'Everytime the hospital improves, huh.'
That's when a man in a black suit and grey hair walks in. "You are up? The chief called you in the interrogation room 9. Can you walk?"
Karl refuses. After a few minutes, Karl is in a wheelchair, wearing typical patient clothes. He glances out of the window and sees the sunset. "How long was I out for?" Karl asks.
"For about 3 hours."
'No mana yet.'
Karl observes around and it reminds him of the cooperative offices. Everybody doing their own thing without talking at all. Karl steps into a elevator and goes 4 floors below.
The door opens and the atmosphere is very different from above. Dark corners, an empty large corridor with dull and old walls, Steel doors at every step and a very annoying sense of someone watching everything,
'Everything looks so. Dead?' That was Karl's initial thought.
Karl is taken inside a random room. It is same one from earlier. "Wait here. The chief will come shortly." With this the gray haired man leaves, closing the metal door loudly. Karl sighs visibly and waits.
After 20 something minutes a blue haired man with the old man who attacked Karl walk in and sits in front of Karl.
"Leonard, I am Susen Theodare. The chief executive of the logistic department and a low knight serving I'm federation and he is Zon Barret, the grandfather of the girl which you assaulted."
"I did not." Karl corrects.
"Oh. My bad." Chief awkwardly laughs. Barret looks at Chief. Karl notices Barret's injured arm.
'He said it on purpose. This guy could be problematic.'
"Leonard, It says here on your report that you had an accident and lost your memories?" Chief opens a document as he is interrogating Karl.
"Yes. I don't remember anything at all. I was told that jumped off a cliff while escaping a three-horned monkey."
"Then, did you had any arguement or any type of conversation with Mr.Barret's granddaughter?"
"No. In fact, I do not know her at all. I only know her roommate and my friend. Andressa." Karl explains.
"But we have witnesses of you quarreling with Mr.Barret's daughter."
'Witness? Another bluff? No. I don't know anything about Leonard's life. Let's play it safe here.'
"As you said that I lost my memories then I could have any past with that girl." The Chief rights something on the document.
"What do you think about Miss Mikaela's accusation of you?"
"Merely a misunderstanding. She claims that see saw me, But the warden says otherwise."
"Warden?"
"Yes, Mikaela said that the warden saw a boy entering the girls dormitory."
"Okay. From the current clues I can say that you are not the culprit." Karl smiles as he hears this sentence.
"But how could the culprit escape from the second floor?" The chief questions.
"Her room is on the ground floor." Karl answers rapidly.
"And how do you know that?"
'Fuck!' Karl curses at himself.
"W-well, my friend Andressa told me in the past that her room is on the first floor."
"But you just said that you lost your memories." Chief questions. Barret's eyes grow sharp as he hears Karl's respones.
The chief changes his tone and asks "Are you hiding something Mr. Avaritia?"
'This guy is no joke. He is trying to trap me in his questions.' Karl thinks as he looks at Chief.
'Why not trap him instead?' Karl smiles.
"Yes, I am hiding something from you."
"I KNEW IT." Barret yells but the chief's face doesn't change at all. Instead it looks more emotionless.
"What are you hiding, Mr. Avaritia?" Chief asks.
'Caught you.'
"At the night of the attack. I was in my dorm. With Andressa. We spend the night together." Karl says with slight blush.
"But Miss Andressa was in the infirmary that night. How was she in your dorm?" Chief asks back.
"Well, after I left her I came back at night and took her to my dorm. Then, in the morning I took her back to the dorm."
"This is a obivious lie." Barret says with a angry face,
"Calm down. We are in the federation HQ. Behave like a knight, Mr.Barret." The chief scolds Barret. Then he moves back to the Karl.
"Any evidence of this nightout of yours?" Chief's tone was sarcastic but his face did not move along the tone at all.
'Creepy'
"I-I have an evidence in my room." Karl fumbles and blushes on purpose.
A man in the black suit appears and stands behind the chief, "Search this kid's house and check the infirmary's CCTV footage for a girl named Andressa." The chief orders.
While the man is gone Chief continues to ask various tricky question to Karl. Trying to find another mistake. But Karl doesn't allows him. He answers most of the questions with I don't know, I can't remember or refuses to answer at all.
After 20 minutes, the man returns. "Did find the evidence and the footage?" the chief asks.
"I found an odd thing in his room and as for the infirmary, it has been destroyed and the doctor who worked at that place is missing."
'Great Zena! You are fucking amazing,' Karl celebrates in his mind.
"What thing did you find?" The man unveils a panties with flowery pattern.
'It's pink.'
This thought came on the everybody's mind at the same time.
Chief face palms himself and turns to Barret. "Please verifiy that this is not your granddaughter panties."
"W-What?" The man hands the panties to Barret. He immediately backs away.
"A knight could never." Barret refuses in an instant. Karl looks at Chief in the eye.
'And that's checkmate.'
