A silence descended in the room once again, and the culprit was the jumpy teenager.

Ren's eyes widened, and his mouth opened slightly yet he was made speechless by Terim's sudden suggestion that not a single word came out. 

The subtle emotions on Ren's face were loud enough for Terim to notice his slip of the tongue. He quickly tried to backtrack, his cheeks turning a faint shade of pink.

"I-I mean, I can be your guardian," Terim stammered, looking flustered. "No, that's not what I mean either. I can ask Mom to adopt you, then you will be my younger brother."

The flustered teenager forgot his embarrassment in just a mere second and became excited again, an ability Ren found himself envious of.

But... what does this kid mean by younger brother?

"I am three months older than you, child." Ren retorted, deliberately emphasizing the word 'child'.
