The boys initially did not even look an eye to eye. They were silently resisting the other, trying to get the comfort by gaining the higher position. 

They competed with each other again and again. Breaking each other's noses and pulling their hair apart.

Kade was stunned and completely forgot to struggle. This was the first time someone actually touched his hair without disgust. It was a different thing that this time, the said person was filled with anger. After that day, they somehow started spending more time with each other.

Perhaps, their experiences were a bit similar as both were abandoned by their parents, Xion Xander somehow managed to wiggle his way into Kade's heart. Later, it was discovered that his assessments had been misjudged, and he was actually at level A+. The very reason he could fight with S-level Dure on almost equal footing. However, Xion chose never to disclose this truth to his parents.
