章節 202: High-tech from Japan

"Hey, Steve, why have you been running so fast every day recently? You don't hang out with us anymore?"

In a high school campus located in the United States, young people were freely enjoying their youth.

Among these people, three or four were rough housing together.

Steve was being held by a few people around his neck, questioning why he hadn't been hanging out with them lately.

"I told you already, I've got something fun at home, I even invited you guys over to play, but none of you wanted to come."

"Something fun at home? What could be fun at home? Could it be... oh, I see."

The group of people showed a mysterious smile.

Steve immediately defended himself, "What are you jerks thinking? I've told you, I have a gaming console at home that you can play on the TV, it's super fun."

"A gaming console? Oh yeah, I remember my brother's family bought one recently, but those are just toys for kids to play with, what's the point? You're so childish, Steve."

They looked down on Steve, feeling like he hadn't outgrown his childhood yet, still enjoying things that only kids play with.

"No, it's not just for kids. This thing is really fun. Do you guys want to come over to my place and experience it?"

"We're not going, you go play with your childish video games, we're going to play basketball."

Suddenly, Steve remembered something and said, "Wait, I just remembered, there's also a basketball game on the console, it's really fun."

"Huh? Basketball game on TV?"

Several young people were fond of playing basketball. In American schools, basketball, football, and baseball were very popular sports, with almost over ninety-five percent of boys liking these sports.

When they heard about the basketball game on TV, they became somewhat interested.

One of them said puzzledly, "But, I remember there wasn't a basketball game on my brother's console, he only knows how to play that childish Sun Knight game every day, going to rescue the princess, playing it over and over again, besides that, only the racing game is somewhat interesting."

"Sun Knight?" Steve pondered for a moment, then said, "You mean the PN game console, right?"

"It seems so... I'm not sure, I can't remember these things."

As soon as Steve heard this, he immediately sneered, "The kind of game console your brother plays is garbage, it's not even in the same league as the one I play. The gaming console I have is imported from Japan, it has a ton of games, and each one is very interesting. Besides the basketball game, there are also racing games and baseball games."

Several people glanced at each other, seeming to be swayed by what Steve said.

"How about it, come over to my place and play for a bit, I also have snacks and juice at home, I promise once you've played with my console, you'll be hooked."

Steve looked at his friends expectantly.

"Well... let's just go, it's just for fun anyway."

These young people had energy to spare, and they had been feeling a bit bored recently.

Listening to Steve's explanation, they felt like they could give it a try.

After all, it wouldn't waste too much time.

If they got bored, they could just mock Steve for being childish and then go home.

Several friends playfully arrived at Steve's house.

Steve's house was a very common single-family house in the United States. They had been friends for many years, so they were very familiar with his house. As soon as they entered the house, they ran straight to Steve's bedroom to see if there were any secrets.

But as soon as they entered, they found a pile of game cartridges scattered on the floor, at least dozens of them.

Various posters of American singers and actors adorned the walls. There was a small TV connecting two gaming consoles by the bedside, and there was also a GB gaming console with seven or eight GB game cartridges on the bed.

"Huh? Are these game consoles? They look so special. Why haven't I seen these things for sale in stores?"

Steve's friends curiously picked up the cartridges and examined them.

Steve quickly snatched the cartridges away and said, "These are all things my dad brought back from Japan, he brought back a whole set. Don't just mess around with them casually, if they get damaged, I won't be able to play anymore."

"Are these all games?"

"Yes, wait a moment, I'll show you guys some video games."

Steve rummaged through the pile of cartridges and pulled out a box labeled "Passionate Basketball" game.

This game was released after the Super Baseball League, a sequel to the Super Basketball game. The gameplay was very similar to Super Basketball, essentially basketball gameplay with some absurd elements added.

In Japan, this game was even more popular than the regular basketball game made by Takayuki before. Because kids loved it.

Steve also considered it to be the most fun basketball game he had played so far, humorous and interesting, with all sorts of super moves, just perfect for having a blast.

Steve picked up the controller, adjusted it skillfully, and then picked up another controller, saying to his friends, "Come on, who wants to try it first? Let me teach you how to play."

One of Steve's friends bravely took the controller. He had played video games at his brother's place before, so he was quite familiar with using the controller.

The others watched the TV screen with wide eyes.

"Why is everything in Japanese?"

Steve explained, "This was only sold in Japan before, so of course it's in Japanese. Don't worry, it won't affect playing basketball games at all, but I heard that this company is planning to sell in the US soon, so we should be able to see news about this gaming console being officially sold soon."

Steve quickly guided his friends into the game's start screen.

"This basketball game doesn't look that great."

"Yeah, I thought it would be more fun."

The ones who didn't play started discussing at the back.

Meanwhile, Steve and another friend who were playing had stopped talking.

The rules of the game were 2v2, with each player controlling two basketball players for offense.

At first, Steve just acted as a guide, helping his friend get familiar with the controls.

But when his friend suddenly used a strange special move to fly up and slam dunk fiercely, the others who had been discussing fell silent for a moment.

"Wow, not bad." The friend playing the game said happily.

In real life, such special slam dunks were of course impossible, but in video games, one could unleash their imagination. However, getting them to admit that this was fun wouldn't be easy.
