Thank you guys, I hope you all have a wonderful day.

...

Upon hearing this, Chu Cheng immediately thought of the classic chant, "I no longer want to be human."

"When the infection level exceeds 100%, the infected individuals may awaken extraordinary abilities," Chen Meiyue continued, "These abilities can manifest in various forms. It could be elemental control, heightened perception, significant physical enhancements, or a myriad of distinct abilities."

"You mean they become superheroes with superpowers," Chu Cheng understood.

He understood this concept, similar to the superheroes in DC and Marvel comics, with all sorts of strange and peculiar abilities, some useful and some useless.

He wondered if there were infected individuals who had the ability to talk to fish.

"You could interpret it that way too," Chen Meiyue nodded, "The raw power of most ability users can still be controlled within certain limits, and modern technology and firepower are sufficient to deal with them. So far, we haven't discovered any infected individuals who possess the physical strength to withstand firepower from conventional weapons.

The problem lies in the fact that many infected individuals don't rely solely on brute force. Some of them possess extremely peculiar abilities that are difficult to defend against, which is what makes infected individuals so terrifying."

Chu Cheng had a general understanding of the situation.

That's true. The firepower of modern technology far exceeds what is portrayed in general movies and shows. From a perspective of modern science, no matter how mutated or enhanced, no carbon-based life form can survive under a barrage of firepower.

However, it's a different story if we're talking about superpowers with special abilities. Especially when we don't know the identity or the type of abilities the other person possesses, it becomes particularly challenging to deal with.

"Infected individuals may possess formidable powers, and at the same time, infected individuals with an infection coefficient exceeding 100% are highly likely to have completely lost control of their minds, resulting in unpredictable mental symptoms.

It's important to note that this doesn't mean they have lost their rationality. Many infected individuals, although mentally unstable, have clear and organized thoughts, knowing exactly what they want to do and developing detailed plans to achieve it. This makes them particularly dangerous." 1

Chu Cheng quickly understood the severity of the situation. Madmen are not scary; what's frightening is when madmen have ideas.

But this is quite a coincidence. When it comes to dealing with madmen, Batman may be considered second, but there's definitely no one who dares claim the first spot. Throughout the eighty years of Gotham's history, the most famous landmark undoubtedly is the illustrious Arkham Asylum, home to a plethora of talented madmen.

During the eighty years of his comic book existence, the Caped Crusader would run to Arkham Asylum almost every week, wishing he could spend more time there than at his own manor, gaining extensive experience in interacting with various lunatics.

He even has a professional knack for it.

"But in this world, nothing is absolute, and the same goes for infected individuals. Not all of them will experience mental issues," Chen Meiyue continued, "There's a portion of individuals who, despite being exposed to the infection and affected by it, remain unaffected in their minds by the ancient presence.

They still undergo physical transformations, gaining enhanced physical abilities, heightened vitality, and even awakening special powers, but they don't exhibit abnormal mental states.

We refer to these individuals as the anomalies." 1

Chu Cheng quickly processed this information.

In the past couple of days, he had a sense that this world wasn't quite right. He had naively assumed he had crossed over into a peaceful urban world, but now it seemed like he had been mistaken.

"The anomalies are the most adept at undertaking the task of eliminating infected individuals and eradicating the source of infection," Chen Meiyue said. "Our Special Operations Unit Nine was established for this very purpose."

"During our missions in Unit Nine, there's often a risk of coming into contact with infected objects or infected individuals, which is why our unit primarily consists of anomalies. Even if an anomaly hasn't awakened any practical abilities or lacks combat prowess, we often absorb them as civilian personnel.

However, anomalies are different from infected individuals. The infection coefficient of an infected individual can be roughly determined using conventional scanning devices, but handheld devices cannot detect the infection coefficient of anomalies. To determine the specific infection coefficient of an anomaly, a comprehensive examination must be conducted."

Upon hearing this, Chu Cheng immediately thought of the medical examination he underwent yesterday. He pointed to himself tentatively, "Are you referring to me?"

"Correct," Chen Meiyue sweetly smiled, "Through yesterday's incident, you have already proven yourself to be an anomaly. Although the examination results indicate that your infection level is below 10% and you may not possess exceptional abilities, your status as an anomaly alone qualifies you to join Unit Nine."

As she said this, she leaned back, her graceful figure sinking into the soft cushion, accentuating her well-developed chest in contrast to the nearby Tang Li, who was earnestly tinkering with her tablet.

Every man has a side of man within them, and Chu Cheng was no exception.

Chu Cheng had figured it out; this beautiful woman was quite cunning. He had reason to believe that she was deliberately testing him, and he felt disdainful inside.

"Well, you're still a greenhorn, and you don't even know if you're ripe yet. Which cadre can't withstand such a test?"

"Of course, even as an anomaly, it's completely up to the individual whether they choose to join or not. We won't force anyone," Chen Meiyue continued to explain, "But there's one thing you must know.

Infected individuals and anomalies are sworn enemies, like natural adversaries. Once an infected individual discovers the existence of an anomaly, they will immediately seek to eliminate them."

Chu Cheng immediately recalled the infected students from yesterday on the campus, their hollow yet aggressive gazes towards him, and it sent shivers down his spine.

Now thinking about it, perhaps it was because he hadn't been infected that he became the target of the infected individuals' attack? Was it because he refused to associate with the madmen?

Chu Cheng quickly grasped the meaning behind her words.

Implicitly, it meant that as an anomaly, he himself was a prime target for the madmen. Joining the organization would provide him with the support and protection of a larger entity, just like finding shade under a big tree.

Of course, joining the organization also means a higher probability of encountering danger, so it ultimately depends on personal choices.

Chu Cheng fell into contemplation.

It did sound like a good idea. While eliminating infections and maintaining order were important, what mattered more to him personally was the opportunity to enter this extraordinary realm by joining the organization. More information, more resources, and of course, more learning opportunities.

Now that he knew this world was dangerous, where anyone could suddenly meet a tragic end, passively waiting for death was no longer the preferred option. Since he had choices now, even if it was solely for self-preservation, he had to make an effort.

Furthermore, this was also considering the perspective of other anomalies. But for Chu Cheng, joining the organization had another consideration.

That was his cheat.

In games, manipulating heroes to go out and cause trouble, collecting points and fragments, would inevitably attract the attention of others—especially the attention of this Unit Nine.

If Chu Cheng could successfully infiltrate the organization, he would have a better chance of understanding their perspective on manipulating the heroes he controlled, as well as their planned actions and measures. This would allow Chu Cheng to be better prepared.

"By the way, although this may be relatively minor, the organization offers good benefits," Chen Meiyue continued, "There's a regular position with five social insurance and one housing fund, and a starting monthly salary of 50,000, not including year-end bonuses."

"I am willing to give my all for the organization," Chu Cheng immediately expressed his loyalty without hesitation. 1

Chen Meiyue smiled and made a mental note.

His reaction to showing off her figure was indifferent, but his response to the salary and benefits was intense. He was the type who valued wealth over beauty.

But regardless, having desires was a good thing as long as they didn't spiral out of control.

This young man could be useful.

As they spoke, the buildings outside the window became sparser, indicating that the car carrying the group was leaving the urban area.

Chu Cheng remembered something and asked, "By the way, aren't you taking a risk by bringing me to headquarters without knowing whether I will agree to join or not? What if I say no?"

"Then we'll have to take you to headquarters," Chen Meiyue replied with a sweet and charming smile. "Because according to the regulations, civilians like you are not supposed to know the truth."

"So if you learn the truth and still refuse to join, we'll have to take you to headquarters and erase those memories," she added.
