Chapter 4: A Disturbing Question
[A day later, you realize that the woman in the black robe, suspected to be Morgan le Fay, had disappeared from the convoy at some unknown time.]
Two days later, a cavalry troop blocked your path, their banner was distinct, and you recognized it at a glance—it was the army of King Vortigern.]
[ Sensing that their gaze was fixed solely on you, you excused yourself to Princess Guinevere through the carriage curtain and rode forward alone. ]
[With a single sword, you effortlessly slaughtered the enemy.]
[Upon returning to the convoy, you noticed that the knights who had pledged their loyalty to King Leodegrance treated you with increasing respect, even voluntarily giving up their positions around Princess Guinevere's carriage.]
[ With no one else watching, Guinevere chose to spend an hour alone before insisting on sharing a horse with you, to which King Leodegrance agreed with pleasure. She then began to inquire about your life with the elves.]
[ You shared with her the stories of your childhood.]
[From Guinevere's words, you learned that there were many legends about you within the borders of England.]
[ The two most widely circulated versions were that you were a knight favored by elves, blessed by fairies, and wielding a holy sword of light, while the other claimed you were the true illegitimate son of King Uther! ]
[After hearing this, you chuckled and told Guinevere that it was all false, and that you were just an ordinary human.]
[Listening to your humble tone, Guinevere's gaze, full of admiration as she looked at your chiseled and handsome face, intensified. This time you noticed it, and a disturbing question suddenly arose in your mind: if things continued to develop in this way, would this be considered betraying King Arthur, or the knight of the lake, Lancelot? ]
[You quickly shook your head, reminding yourself that you could only be Guinevere's guardian knight and must live up to the sword in your hand!]
[After setting up camp in the evening, Guinevere sat down by the fire next to you. Intending to maintain a distance, you advised her to rest early.]
Under the moonlight, Fujimaru blew into the cold wind alone, with a thousand metaphorical alpacas stampeding through his mind. It was during Fujimaru's moment of deep thought that the faint sound of horse hooves approached from a distance, accompanied by the warning sound of a horn.
Fujimaru immediately grasped his sword and went to guard Guinevere's tent. As the scout who had gone to report the situation drew near, the sound of the horn grew louder. Many knights on night watch took up their weapons, and even Guinevere emerged from her tent.
"What's happening, Austin?" she asked.
"The situation is unclear, Princess. Please go back inside, and I will go investigate," you replied.
Seeing Fujimaru's resolute eyes, Guinevere nodded happily, the slight panic that had been in her eyes disappearing. "I will go with you."
"Princess..." Fujimaru wanted to say more, but Guinevere interrupted: "I am safest with you, am I not? My knight!"
With Guinevere insisting, Fujimaru could only nod in agreement: "Alright."
They headed straight for the camp entrance, where King Leodegrance was already standing. Seeing Fujimaru and Guinevere, King Leodegrance nodded: "It seems we have discovered the army of another country. After all, all the nobles and knighted men in England have received invitations."
Fujimaru curiously asked, "King Leodegrance, how many nobles will attend Prince Arthur's ceremony?"
"Although I doubt their intentions for going to Camelot are sincere, about sixty percent will attend, but only less than thirty percent are truly important. However, I am certain they will all send spies to observe the ceremony."
"And the kings? How many will go to Camelot?"
King Leodegrance narrowed his eyes: "Probably only myself."
Fujimaru asked appropriately, "Why have you chosen to go to Camelot, King Leodegrance?"
"When king, Uther, was alive, he helped my kingdom through many crises. Now that his successor has appeared, I must see for myself."
"Oh, then the black-robed woman who came to find me today is..."
King Leodegrance smiled: "You will know in time."
At that moment, the scout arrived.
"King, we have encountered Vortigern's army; they are heading straight for our camp."
King Leodegrance's brow furrowed: "How many are there? Who is the commander?"
"No, Your Majesty, it is Vortigern himself. King Vortigern has come in person, and he wishes to see the Knight of the Holy Light."
In the next second, all eyes turned to Fujimaru.
King Leodegrance nodded slightly, a trace of concern on his face. Regardless of whether Fujimaru could truly pull the sword from the stone, with the title of Knight of the Holy Light, Vortigern would surely want to win him over.
Fujimaru's expression turned serious as he looked at Guinevere: "Princess, please forgive me for not being able to stay by your side for now, but please believe in my oath."
"I have never doubted you! But I want to go with you!" Guinevere's eyes were filled with determination and worry.
Fujimaru shook his head without hesitation: "I'm sorry, Princess, but if the opponent is the White Dragon, even I may not return alive..."
Hearing this, Guinevere's resolve only strengthened.
Fujimaru had no choice but to look to King Leodegrance.
"Guinevere..."
"Father! Austin is my guardian knight, I..."
As the father and daughter seemed on the verge of arguing, Fujimaru said to Guinevere: "Princess, although I may not be able to defeat Vortigern, I am not so easily killed. I promise, I will return and continue my knightly oath."
Guinevere's expression was filled with worry, but she knew this was not the time to persist.
"You must come back! You are my... knight."
Fujimaru turned and went to the stables, took hold of the reins, and mounted his horse.
"I will."
