Did Li Gang read about this circular maze formation? No! It is so unpopular that it is not present in any important war formation scripture. He was inspired by the Circular Formation and made changes accordingly to fit his needs. Even though it is similar to the Circular Maze formation, it is not just a Circular Maze!
Unlike a normal Circular Maze, this formation is flexible. It is more about efficiency. In a war, when there is no direct confrontation, there are few Warriors who are idle and are not able to participate in the battle. However, in this circular maze-like formation, the inner layers keep rotating. No warrior engages in a continuous battle. From outside, it seems like a static formation, but as soon as one enters the formation, they are forced to battle multiple opponents.
There are three healers present at the core of the formation. They continuously heal the backward Warriors, while the front Warriors engage in the battle. Front Warriors don't fight for a long duration; they are rational and fight for a short time before exchanging with the rotating Warriors. How do they do this?
There are two kinds of Warriors in the formation: Attacking Warriors and Defensive Warriors. Defensive Warriors are those who form layers in the formation. They are equipped with a defensive shield and a spear. There are only a hundred or so Warriors who can fight at once because just that much space is available within the formation. Attacking Warriors are responsible for fighting.
The Attacking and Defensive Warriors seamlessly switch their positions in the middle of the battle. Each layer rotates from left to right. Thus, through the rotation, the injured warrior goes to the backward position, gets healed, and soon returns to the front position. It should be noted that each of the Defensive layer Warriors after the second layer are in an attacking stance with bows and arrows. They form a defensive layer as soon as they realize that the enemy has reached a higher layer. That is, if the enemy is in the second layer, then after the 3rd layer, it will be the core region. If they enter the 3rd layer, then they will form a 4th layer, and within it will be the core layer. This method effectively brings out the highest battle strength of each and every Warrior!
Every Defensive Warrior has the freedom to take an attacking stance when there is no attack in the near future! They have practiced so much that they have a clear awareness of when to take an attacking stance and when to take a defensive stance.
Whenever a Warrior forming a defensive layer dies, the Warrior from the left moves quickly to the middle position and fills the gap formed in the layer to avoid forceful infiltration into a deeper layer. However, killing a Defensive layer Warrior is not easy. The shield they use is made up of Rank 4 material and imbued with formations to protect them from secret techniques! It needs at least Rank 5 mid-stage attack strength to cause damage. Each Defensive Warrior also possesses their own unique Spiritual Imprint and Secret Techniques. These 10,000 Warriors were specifically selected by Li Gang. They all possess Spiritual Imprints that are especially useful for such situations. Most of them possess Earth-type Spiritual Imprints, and they are especially capable in a defensive stance.
It is not easy to enter the deepest level. The maze keeps changing every moment, and there is no fixed path. Every time the enemy is about to figure out the gap, the defensive warriors in the respective layer reposition themselves, and the gap is shifted somewhere else. Forcefully attacking a Defensive Warrior seems to be the only option, but this is the most inefficient method because the archers from the core area are able to attack and continuously harm the enemy. They are capable of imbuing the arrows with their spiritual essence to increase their effectiveness even among Rank 5 Warriors! Thus, the enemy is forced to enter the formation as soon as possible. Being outside is akin to being a lamb on the chopping block. It is also not easy to deal with Defensive layer Warriors. To kill them, a Rank 5 Warrior has to personally attack with their full strength. However, there are only 3 of them! How long can they sustain? The stronger the force you use, the faster you exhaust yourself! Using full strength, they will lose their stamina before they can kill even 50 of them!
Let's consider another method: using quantity to overcome quality! They have over 300 times more Warriors, can they use 300 Warriors to attack each Defensive layer warrior. However, here is the catch: is there enough space for 300 Warriors to attack one Warrior? At most, 3-4 Warriors can attack. Even if they attack, they are incapable of breaking through the defense. If they attack from distance, then they will fall prey to the core archers' attacks.
Using archery to attack from the air is also impossible. The formation extends very high into the sky. It is able to block even Rank 5-level arrows. However, the formation's defense reduces with height, and if one fires an arrow too high with a projectile that enters the formation, it can be deadly. Unfortunately, it is highly impractical. By the time they figure this out, they would lose 10% of their army.
Now let's consider the situation where the enemy also uses a Rank 4 Weapon. But how many Warriors out of 5 million truly possess a Rank 4 Weapon? Shu Dynasty is indeed richer than Wei, but are they rich enough to lend Rank 4 Weapons to fight a mere Wei Dynasty? There are only 1,000-2,000 Warriors who possess Rank 4 Weapons. Among those two thousand, only a few hundred are capable of breaking through the defense. However, that is only when these Defensive layer Warriors don't use their Spiritual Imprints to boost their defense! Thus, it becomes highly impractical. Li Gang has used most of the assets of the Wei Dynasty for this battle; he didn't care about using so many resources!
It should also be noted that these Warriors all follow the orders of the general. A general gives an overall plan for the attack, distributed to each unit. Each unit does the tasks assigned to them. How can a general figure out which Warrior has the ability to break the defense? Even if some of the Warriors' Spiritual Imprints are impressive enough to break through the defense, they still have to follow the command of their leader. They can't act on their own, as this is one of the fundamental rules in the military. Li Gang precisely aimed at this weakness: Disunity in Unity!
Li Gang has been training these 10,000 Warriors for the last 10 years in his spare time, and they have united in heart and soul. They were training on this formation for the last 10 years exactly for this very moment. Each of these Warriors' battle awareness and decision-making within the formation is something that even Shu Pang can't match at this moment. It is similar to how an experienced chess player with 100 IQ can easily beat a 200 IQ person playing chess for the first time. Li Gang took the last month to give them a morale boost, a few crucial instructions, and warm-up preparation for this battle.
At this moment, one of the Rank 4 Warriors, named Wu Bo, glanced at Li Gang and asked politely, "What would you like to do after this battle, Master Ren?"
Li Gang looked at Wu Bo and said lightly, "You are quite confident that we can return?"
Wu Bo nodded. "We believe in your ability and our training. I never expected that you had already realized there would be a huge battle we would have to fight!"
Li Gang smiled but didn't speak. He glanced at the front with his deep eyes and murmured inwardly, "After this battle, I will rest. I haven't slept in the past 10 years. I want to sleep for at least a month. It's a pity that I will only be able to take a month of rest, while you..."
"You have to rest for eternity!"
At the same time, a few hundred miles away from the battlefield
Two Warriors were standing on high ground, observing the scene. They were Shi Tian and Jin Long.
Shi Tian looked at the formation and said slowly, "How impressive!"
Jin Long glanced at Shi Tian and asked, "General Shi, are you able to view the inside of the war formation?"
Shi Tian shook his head. "No, I can only sense the outward appearance of this formation. I have never seen such a formation before. It should be inspired by the Circular Formation."
Jin Long studied the formation carefully and nodded. "It looks like a Circular Maze Formation. However, it should be different from an actual Circular Maze. If their general used a normal Circular Maze, they would be destroyed immediately. I don't believe this is it."
Shi Tian glanced at Jin Long and asked lightly, "Why do you think so, Your Majesty?"
Jin Long thought for a moment and then spoke calmly, "Her vision can never be ordinary. She would never ask me to come here meaninglessly."
A Rank 5 Warrior was bathed in blood. He glanced at his opponent and laughed. "Is that all you've got?"
Li Yuxong frowned. His whole body was covered in sweat. He had received a mission from the Heaven's Hand Sect to eradicate a demon who appeared near Heavenly Terrace City in the southwestern direction.
Even though he had reached the Rank 6 peak stage and was capable of killing Rank 5 Warriors easily, he was facing difficulty for some reason.
The demon laughed. "Who would have thought that the holy son of the Heaven's Hand Sect is just that!"
Li Yuxong shouted loudly, "Don't think you can escape today! You will pay for what you have done. You will pay for every life you have taken!"
The demon laughed even more. "What are you furious about? It's just a few ants! For a mere hundred thousand ants, you are here to stop me?"
Soon, the entire region was covered in a bloody environment. Every mortal and Warrior who died here had their blood evaporated. A strong blood stench appeared in the atmosphere.
Li Yuxong said angrily, "What did you do?"
