The Lich King which dominated for centuries before the heroes came together and brought it to heel, ushering the world into a state of peace. 

In the five hundred years since it's defeat, proud nations abundant with the humanity that had once fueled it's armies, now stood in defiance of everything it had once meant.

The leaves on the few trees outside of the city, had withered to nothing but faint husks of the abundant verdance they once sported.

The dry earth of the vast plains of Hacuray had cracked apart and turned inhospitable, spiderwebbing marks spun throughout the landscape, and poisonous insects began to rise through the mud.
