"You got a haircut," Hathaway said as he stared at me curiously.
I had just received my identification card with Lyra and was currently standing above ground at the familiar entrance to the abandoned subway station.
"Hm? Oh yeah... I figured it was about time I got rid of it, I guess." I pulled lightly at the slightly curled edges of my now short hair and shrugged.
To be honest, I never really expected my hair to grow as long as it did. That was because I didn't expect to stay as long as I did in the Red World. The time difference on Earth says I spent about seventy years there, but it felt far longer for me on the other side. Maybe there really was some sort of time dilation.
There, I didn't have to worry much about appearances or cleanliness. I just let my hair grow and flutter as it liked. And despite how it may seem, it was never really a problem for me.
