Ivy smiled. "In the past, you were confident when you spoke of sending me out of here but now your voice is shaky. I wonder if it is because you are scared he will throw you out of here. Play nice and you will stay here, Layla."

"Do not speak to me so casually. I am the wife of Lord Kingsley. You are just the maid. I don't care whatever title he came up with to give you. Are you not ashamed? You've come back to the home where you slept with a married man and you are parading around like it is acceptable," said Layla.

Men were going to think with other parts of their body but women had to be sensible. Ivy knew that mistresses were frowned upon in the town by other wives. No one was going to send invitations around for Ivy to be part of high society.
