The Golden Beast clearly understood her intentions and unceremoniously walked over to the wooden basin, taking a hearty drink. The woods were filled with the sound of its gulping water.
The large basin of water quickly emptied, and the Golden Beast seemed satisfied, squinting its golden pupils and sticking out its rough tongue to lick at the blood-drenched wound on its abdomen.
Licking wounds is the most common method of healing in the animal kingdom; their saliva, which they produce, is an excellent anti-inflammatory medicine, and animals' self-healing ability is much stronger than that of humans. As long as the wound is not fatal, they can usually recover without medication after a good period of rest.
The Golden Beast's wounds, although not life-threatening, were very severe, with several deep gashes on its abdomen. If not for its thick skin, which had acted as a good prevention and cushion, it would have probably been gutted and beyond dead.
