 David's eyes narrowed as he stared at Carissa, a coldness settling over him like a shroud. "Your resignation?" he repeated, his voice laced with thinly veiled contempt. "And what makes you think I would accept it?"

Carissa's heart sank at his harsh tone, but she remained composed. "I understand if you want to terminate my employment, sir," she replied, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her.

A smirk tugged at the corner of David's lips, his demeanor bordering on smugness. "Oh, I'm sure you understand a lot of things, Carissa," he retorted, his words dripping with sarcasm. "But understanding your own incompetence seems to be a challenge for you."

Carissa's confusion deepened at his unexpected hostility. "I assure you, sir, I never intended to cause any harm," she insisted, her tone pleading.

David's smirk widened into a full-blown sneer. "Of course not," he scoffed. "But your intentions matter little when your actions speak volumes, don't they?"
