章節 141: Do you have a range hood there?

Hurley lived on the eleventh floor, along with others who guarded the supplies, and as long as they installed a range hood, people outside wouldn't be able to smell any fragrances.Of course, this was on the condition that they weren't cooking dishes with heavy oil and strong flavors.Having eaten meals from the Allen family before, which tended to be light, there shouldn't be any issues.

Blanche then looked at Alice and smiled, "Alice, Do you have a range hood there?

Alice shrugged, looking somewhat innocent, "No."She had thought of everything else but had forgotten about the range hood.

Seeing their dilemma, Hurley looked at Alice and said, "My uncle's place has one that hasn't been taken down yet."

The range hood he was currently using was bought previously, but there was only one.

"Do you want to ask the Base Commander?" Alice hesitated.Taking someone else's range hood directly didn't seem right.

It's fine, he won't need it anyway. If it's taken away by someone, what would happen? By using it, you're practically safeguarding it for him," Hurley said without much thought.

Alice was finally persuaded by him.She followed Hurley back to their original residence, and luckily, the people who were stealing things under the guise of scavenging hadn't taken the range hood.It might also be because this item couldn't be eaten and wasn't needed, so nobody wanted to go through the trouble of taking it down and carrying it away.

Alice looked around and found that the room was littered with things everywhere; the water on the first floor had reached her ankles, and various debris floated on the surface.

Hurley glanced and explained, "My uncle's place isn't this dirty; these are left by the people who came later."He had locked the door when he last left, but who knew the door opened with just a push now; who knows how many intruders had come in.

Hurley went to dismantle the range hood while Alice looked around outside the door.Half of the base had already been submerged by seawater, and the low-lying houses were reduced to just their rooftops, giving off a sense of dread when viewed from afar.

Just as she was about to turn back, Alice suddenly spotted a small boat on the water, its occupants scanning the surroundings with binoculars. Alice's intuition told her something was amiss, prompting her to immediately call out to Hurley.

"What's wrong?" the man hurriedly asked upon hearing Alice's call.

"Take a look at that boat. Do you think those people on it are pirates?" Alice pointed to the nearby vessel.

The boat didn't look too sturdy as it bobbed leisurely on the water's surface, yet it made no move closer.

Alice decisively retrieved two binoculars, handing one to Hurley. The people on the small boat seemed to have noticed them, their binoculars fixed in their direction. Eventually, upon seeing that they too were armed with binoculars, the boat seemed to have second thoughts.

Alice noticed the boat preparing to flee and immediately grabbed a rubber dinghy.

"Let's catch up and see what they're up to."

With the rising seawater, there was simply no way to prevent them from approaching the base. Since they couldn't coexist peacefully and seemed bent on a showdown, they couldn't allow the other party to leave.

The two of them boarded the rubber dinghy and raced toward the boat. As they drew closer, the occupants of the boat, perhaps feeling guilty, sped up their pace.

Alice, of course, wouldn't give them the chance to escape and likewise increased their speed.

Soon, they transitioned from the base's vicinity to the open sea. Hurley took out a gun, preparing to fire when suddenly a strong gust of wind swept across the sea, causing the waves to swell and pushing their rubber dinghy away.

"Hold steady, the boat's about to capsize," Hurley struggled to maintain balance on both sides.

But the waves were too rough, and a massive wave crashed over them, causing the rubber dinghy to overturn. Two people fell into the sea, and rolling waves surged towards them, forcing them apart. Alice held onto the rubber dinghy, struggling to maintain balance. She saw Hurley being pushed further away by the waves, so she quickly grabbed a hemp rope from her space and threw it towards him, saying, "Grab the rope, don't let go."

Hurley quickly grabbed it, and Alice tied one end of the rope to the dinghy. When the waves calmed a bit, she quickly climbed aboard and steered the dinghy towards the base area.

As they neared the base, a large cruise ship approached, and Ignatius's voice came over, "Come over here quickly." Alice looked up and saw Ignatius standing on the deck, waving frantically at them.

Despite being only a few tens of meters away, the fluctuating waves made progress difficult. Just when they managed to make some headway, a huge wave pushed them back several meters.

Finally, Ignatius ordered the ship to come around to their rear, using the waves to their advantage. Once they were on board, Ignatius handed each of them a towel. Seeing them shivering with cold, he said with concern, "What were you doing out in the sea? The typhoon hasn't passed yet. Do you know how dangerous it is to be swept into the sea?"

Thinking of the situation, Ignatius grew agitated. "Base Commander, I'm sorry. I asked Hurley to accompany me to chase pirates," Alice explained.

"Pirates? They're back again?" Ignatius paused, "They really have no fear of death."

Alice then informed him about the small boat they had discovered. "Our terrain is higher than that of the neighboring country. I suspect their area has also been submerged. They're likely sending scouts and attempting to occupy our territory. We must be vigilant."

"I understand. I'll have people guard the shore. Next time, don't be so reckless. As long as we guard the shore, they won't be able to come ashore. There's no need to chase them into the sea," Ignatius's tone softened considerably.

After all, they were also contributing to the base. If he was too harsh on them, it would only dampen their spirits.Alice acknowledged with a nod. On the ship, she couldn't retrieve clothes, so she sat by the brazier, dripping wet. Hurley fetched a coat and draped it over her shoulders.

"Where is the Base Commander going?" Alice asked, puzzled when she noticed the ship wasn't heading towards the base.

"This is a patrol vessel. We have to check how much the water level has risen every day," Hurley explained.

Alice nodded, not pressing further. She yawned, feeling a bit itchy in the nose.

Hurley glanced outside. "My uncle isn't here. You better change into dry clothes from your space to avoid catching a cold."

Alice hesitated, wondering how she would explain if Ignatius asked.

"If he asks, I'll figure something out to cover for you. Just go change your clothes," Hurley urged again.

Unable to resist his persistence, Alice found a secluded spot to change her clothes.
