"When can we do an S-Rank Mission?" On the way to the Hokage Building, Obito couldn't help sighing as he thought about Kakashi's cutting words from yesterday.
In C-Rank Missions he couldn't even encounter a ninja, obviously not the type of mission he wanted to do.
"Tonight." Kakashi replied.
"Why?" Obito asked puzzled.
"I dreamt about it when I was asleep." Kakashi replied indifferently.
"Even Chunin find it hard to participate in S-Rank Missions, and you haven't even graduated yet but want to complete an S-Rank Mission?"
"Damn it, Kakashi, don't think I'm like you. When I become a Chunin, I'll definitely have the opportunity to do an S-Rank Mission." Obito immediately filled with fighting spirit.
Since they completed D-Rank Missions efficiently and were granted the privilege to take on C-Rank Missions, maintaining high efficiency in those missions would quickly enable them to take on even higher-ranked missions.
"Yumi-sensei, we must take on a challenging mission next, to show them our strength," Obito said, full of determination.
"It would be best if it involved combat," Guy, feeling a bit itchy after two days of hard labor, added.
Kakashi had no preference in this regard; he had already done many C-Rank Missions.
Mutsuki smiled and nodded in agreement, knowing that what Obito and Guy wanted was exactly what he hoped for.
"These are some of the current C-Rank Missions," the registering ninja said, laying out several scrolls for Mutsuki to see.
"Suppress bandits hiding in the Eagle's Beak Mountain, exterminate unknown beasts harassing the town of Kamou, escort the client back to the capital of the Land of Rice Fields..."
Mutsuki glanced over them, noticing that most involving combat were either bandit suppression or beast extermination, which he promptly skipped over.
Wanting to engage in combat wasn't wrong, but fighting against ordinary people or beasts wouldn't be of any help to them.
"Let's go with escorting the client back to the Land of Rice Fields," Mutsuki said after some thought.
"Are you sure you want to choose this mission? The current situation in the ninja world is a bit chaotic. Although the Land of Rice Fields doesn't have a ninja village, there is still a certain level of risk involved in traveling abroad," the registering ninja cautioned.
In truth, he felt that Mutsuki might be better off taking on missions like suppressing bandits or driving away beasts, as many of those missions were within the Land of Fire, safer than traveling abroad.
"We're not afraid of risks; we're afraid of having no risks," Obito's eyes lit up upon hearing the registering ninja's words.
"Thank you for the reminder. We'll go with this one. I believe their abilities can handle any potential crisis," Mutsuki said with a smile.
He had chosen this mission precisely because it involved traveling abroad; if there were no risks, he wouldn't have chosen it.
The registering ninja didn't try to persuade them further. He helped them register for the mission and informed them of the client's current location.
"What kind of risks will we encounter? Ambushes by enemy ninjas?" Obito exclaimed excitedly as they walked out of the Hokage Building.
"You should read fewer novels, Obito. C-Rank Missions don't involve the kind of crises you imagine," Kakashi said speechlessly.
Even if there were ninja ambushes, encountering ninjas during C-Rank Missions would still allow them to return to the village and report.
Next, they went to the inn where the client was resting and found the client who had posted the mission.
"Are you the ninjas taking on the mission? You're certainly promising young individuals," a slightly plump middle-aged man remarked with a smile after seeing Obito and Kakashi.
"I'm Numata Yoshiokai, the client for this mission. These two are my wife and daughter," Numata Yoshiokai introduced briefly.
"I'm Mutsuki Yumi, the Squad Captain for this mission," Mutsuki nodded and introduced himself briefly as well.
"Uncle, you've got a good eye. I'm the top of my class at the Academy!" Obito grinned proudly.
"The top? Then you must be really amazing, big brother," Numata Yoshiokai's daughter blinked her eyes in admiration.
"Of course," Obito said proudly.
"I don't remember you being the top when I was in school," Kakashi suddenly remarked.
"Huh? Were you just bragging?" the little girl asked, looking confused.
"That's because you graduated early," Obito explained vigorously.
Then he went on about being the top twice and how being top in the final year was more significant.
Although the little girl didn't understand what Obito was explaining, she found it amusing to watch him blush and gesture while explaining. She giggled, and for a moment, the atmosphere lightened up.
After a brief introduction, they got down to business. Upon learning that Numata Yoshiokai was ready to leave, Mutsuki suggested they depart immediately.
Considering he was traveling with his wife and daughter, Numata Yoshiokai had prepared a carriage.
Numata Yoshiokai and his family sat in the carriage, while Mutsuki and his disciples followed along on foot.
Compared to the speed of ninjas, the carriage wasn't fast. Nonetheless, both Mutsuki and the others found it easy to keep pace and even chat along the way.
When it was time to rest in the evening, everyone gathered together and chatted for a while. It was then that Mutsuki learned why Numata Yoshiokai seemed so smooth.
Numata Yoshiokai was a merchant, and although he conducted business in the Land of Fire, he was actually from the Land of Rice Fields, as was his whole family.
Due to the ongoing war, Numata Yoshiokai was worried about the dangers of returning home, so he had posted a C-Rank Mission in Konoha.
"I wonder when the ninja world will finally find peace. With the four major nations declaring war on each other, business is going to suffer," Numata Yoshiokai sighed.
The frequent wars made it difficult for someone like him, who relied on traveling business, to endure. It hadn't even been ten years since the last major war, yet another large-scale war had erupted so quickly.
"Uncle, you can rest assured that you'll be safe in our Land of Fire. With us Konoha ninjas here, no other country can come in," Obito reassured, patting his chest.
"The strength of Konoha ninjas is indeed reliable," Numata Yoshiokai nodded. This was a well-known fact in the ninja world.
The following escort mission went smoothly. Until they left the country, Mutsuki and the others encountered no attacks. They didn't even see a single bandit, let alone ninjas, along the way.
This left Obito greatly disappointed. He had expected some level of risk, but the journey, consisting of escorting, traveling, resting, and training, was no different from their usual routine, except for the occasional amusement with the little girl.
"This is what C-Rank Missions are like. Your imagination is too rich," Kakashi remarked.
Having done many C-Rank Missions himself, he had never encountered ninjas during them.
However, things got livelier once they left the Land of Fire. Occasionally, some foolish thieves would attempt to rob them, but they were easily dealt with, as Guy swiftly knocked them all down with a single kick.
On the first night after leaving the country, while Mutsuki was contemplating his Combination Jutsu, there was suddenly some commotion not far from where they were resting, with leaves rustling in a nearby large tree.
"Are they trying to lure us over so obviously?" Mutsuki raised an eyebrow, remaining calm. The ability of the Byakugan was indeed very convenient.
