Professor X was gathering all the mutants involved in the operation to his office.
Logan was the first to arrive; he had just returned and stopped in his tracks when he saw those blue eyes.
Professor X was about to explain when Logan turned his head and began studying a flowerpot on the wall.
Next was the fiery Polaris, who had just caused chaos with Magneto and was feeling triumphant. She walked in exclaiming, "Professor, I was telling you about when that planet exploded... Uh!"
Seeing Polaris's shocked expression, Professor X chuckled to himself, about to explain, but Polaris suddenly slowed down and began counting the cracks on the floor, arms crossed.
Quicksilver burst in as a streak of silver, stopping at the door, then said, "Professor, don't listen to Luna, she blew up the star on purpose, trying to scorch my... God!"
Quicksilver was about to speak when Polaris slapped him on the back and clamped her hand over his mouth.
Phoenix Jean Grey quickly followed, her eyes flicking with surprise when she saw Professor X. She shifted a step to her left next to Logan and the pair started making eyes at each other.
Then came Cyclops, obviously startled upon seeing Professor X, but he soon noticed Phoenix and Wolverine together and quietly moved toward them.
Rakshasa Woman and Blink were the last to arrive, pushing the door open to find the office unnaturally calm. Not daring to say much, both widened their eyes at the sight of Professor X, exchanged a glance, then moved to stand along the wall.
Professor X surveyed the room, finding it strange that no one wanted to ask what was going on. Weren't all the excuses he'd crafted useful?
No matter, they needn't ask for him to explain. Just as Professor X was about to speak, Wolverine Logan extended a hand and said, "No, Professor, no need to explain, we are all very pleased."
Pleased about what? Professor X puzzled inwardly.
"Professor, although we often say that some things are in the past, if there's a chance to rectify regrets, I believe everyone would choose to do so. You don't need to explain, we all understand," Jean said earnestly.
What do you understand? Professor X was even more confused.
At that moment, Magneto briskly entered, dragging a bound Nathaniel and tossed him on the floor. He surveyed the room, everyone silently bowed their heads, no one daring to meet his gaze, even those X-Men members who typically opposed Magneto.
Logan had a quick temper and wanted to say something, but Jean quickly pulled him back, and even Cyclops, who usually didn't get along with Logan, hurriedly gestured to him.
Everyone remained silent.
After a while, Dr. Beast returned, surveyed the room's tense atmosphere, scratched his head in confusion, and asked, "What are you all doing standing around? Wait, who is this guy? Mister Sinister?!"
"Hank, we meet again," Mister Sinister Nathaniel said darkly. "And you, Professor X, you… uh… you… how did you…"
Magneto sneered and, arms crossed, moved aside to watch Nathaniel and said, "Why stop cursing? Is it because he now has more hair than you?"
Nathaniel was completely stunned; though his arms were tied, he still managed to leap three feet off the ground, screaming, "How is this possible! You deceitful baldy, how could you possibly..."
Hearing Nathaniel's words, Polaris instantly gasped and quickly pulled Pietro back to avoid any splatter as Magneto was being insulted directly!
Professor X smiled and said, "Aren't you also British? Aren't you afraid of one day becoming bald yourself?"
"I! I... I could develop a hair-growth tonic! I'm not going to go bald!! Don't think that just because you use an illusion to look like this, it changes your deceitful nature!"
Professor X exchanged a look with Magneto.
In an instant, electricity surged, crackling, and a flash of light passed before everyone's eyes. When the light faded, smoke emerged from the top of Nathaniel's head, his few remaining hairs completely disappeared.
It took Nathaniel three seconds to realize what had happened, and he let out an unparalleled scream. Professor X smiled at him and said, "Now, who is the deceitful baldy?"
"Damn," Logan muttered softly to someone nearby, "why do I feel like the Professor's personality has also reverted to his younger days?"
"What was he like back then?"
"Hard to say," Logan glanced at Professor X, lowering his voice further, then added, "Back then, their personalities were the complete opposite."
"Sss..."
Fortunately, after a brief exchange of words, it was still necessary to discuss the serious matters. Whether young or old, Magneto was never a man of many words, so the interrogation naturally fell to Professor X.
Actually, Professor X did not usually need to conduct interrogations, as his mutant ability allowed him to see any secret at any time. However, Nathaniel had somehow shielded himself from detection, leaving Professor X with no choice but to ask directly.
"Was it Apocalypse who sent you?"
"You might as well save your effort, I won't talk. Surprised to find that your proud abilities are useless now, aren't you?" Nathaniel said mockingly.
Professor X sighed. Just because he was adept at strategizing didn't mean he relished such tasks. Shiller wouldn't give him much time, and it wasn't worth wasting on such a man.
Professor X took a deep breath.
Everyone except Magneto thought he was about to speak, but in the next instant, a tangible Psy-storm erupted, with Nathaniel at its center screaming in terror.
By the time everyone regained their composure, they were all drenched in cold sweat. Logan unconsciously looked at the office clock. What they thought was but a moment of distraction had, in fact, been a full ten minutes.
Their minds went blank for ten minutes.
"What happened?" Jean pressed her temples and shook her head, as Logan lowered his eyelids and said, "Some say Professor X's mental abilities aren't omnipotent, but that assumes no destruction is caused."
Everyone heard this and looked at Nathaniel, who was now lying on the ground. His body was still alive, but apart from breathing, he showed no response.
Polaris plucked up the courage to turn him over, discovering his gaze was completely unfocused. Simply put, his brain was fried, leaving him an idiot.
Professor X stood pensively, and after a long pause, he said, "I see, Nathaniel isn't a mutant."
"How is that possible?!" Cyclops exclaimed incredulously. "He has crossed paths with this guy many times. They always thought Nathaniel opposed them because he despised his own mutant identity."
Professor X shook his head and said, "He has the X-gene, but it was added later, modified by Apocalypse."
"Apocalypse can do that?!"
"As one of the oldest mutants, it's not surprising. I saw from Nathaniel's memories that Apocalypse was very interested in his plan to integrate mutants, which is why he modified him."
"He's just a cruel Hangman!" Cyclops raised his voice. "Last time, we found several modified mutants in his lab, all in agony!"
"Now is not the time to discuss that," Professor X sighed again. "He's developed a poison targeting the X-gene for Apocalypse, and to show his sincerity, he personally came to the Andromeda Galaxy to deploy the poison here."
"But fortunately, because of the previous bio-uprising event..."
Professor X briefly explained the current situation, then said, "Apocalypse thinks he has us by our throats and wants us to do his bidding. By tomorrow morning at the latest, the news of Magneto and Polaris ambushing the Shi'ar Empire lab will spread throughout the cosmos, and by then, he'll definitely think we've made our move."
"Professor, you want to lure him out?"
"Exactly, we'll claim to have obtained that item and propose to exchange it for the antidote. He'll surely come for it, and crucially, the people behind him will definitely show up."
"Why are you so sure?"
"If it were you, would you trust someone like Apocalypse with something so dangerous?" Professor X asked, very confidently asserting, "Thousands of years haven't much improved Apocalypse's abilities, nor his wisdom; he's a man whose ambition is written all over his face. The New Skrull Empire will use him but would never let him touch anything core."
Dr. Beast nodded and said, "Makes sense. If there truly was a superweapon capable of instantly destroying a star system, the New Skrull Empire would never allow such a thing to fall into others' hands."
"We'll make our move at this point." A glint of cold light flashed in Professor X's eyes as he turned to Rakshasa Woman. "How are things on Mystique's end?"
"She can directly command not many starships, about five; the Elder Council has three more, but moving now might spook them."
"Five will suffice. Have they been outfitted as nobles' ships?"
"They were already disguised as ships of the most powerful nobles of the Ferocious Feather Star, complete with all necessary flags."
"Good, tell them to get ready."
Professor X looked at Magneto and said, "Facing both mutants and Apocalypse, the Skrulls wouldn't send just a few people; at least a fleet will come."
"You want them to clash directly?"
"No, I plan to wipe out one side." Professor X said, "Destroying a fleet of the New Skrull people isn't a big deal because they are a purely mechanical civilization. Starting up the assembly lines, they can quickly replenish their losses, as starships aren't that valuable."
"But if it's a fleet of Shi'ar Empire nobles, it's different. The battleships of the Shi'ar Empire need to undergo many enchantments to perform at their peak, and the nobles themselves only hold partial military power. Losing five battleships is already an unacceptable loss to them."
"But will they really declare war on the New Skrull Empire because of that?" Polaris asked, puzzled.
"It's not just about losing five battleships; it's crucial that the queen's battleships are involved. If they don't consume the queen's battleships, the few remaining will be swiftly taken from them. They won't allow that to happen."
