章節 65: Festival

Aromas of different foods enticed the festival goers as the glowing stalls attracted attention in the dim evening light.

Adam enthusiastically bought anything that caught his eye from sweet corn to ice cram.

"Look it's me."

He said in a slightly hushed voice as he picked up a semi realistic figurine, wearing light combat armor and wielding an absurdly large battle axe.

The same stall sold many of these figurines and plushies and was jointed to a place selling posters and other merchandise.

It was pretty popular and despite wanting to see how many people he could recognize among the figures; some people began recognizing him, so we had to move.

Although despite all this Adam didn't go very far away from the exit of the stadium, waiting for something.

"They're here!"

A disturbance was created among the crowd as the new students walked towards the stalls as well, their uniforms making them stick out like a sore thumb.

The crowd would part slightly in respect as they walked through, some reveled in the attention, other had covered their uniforms with hoodies to avoid attention.

Adam was very obviously looking for Emma but there was a pretty big commotion being caused due to the presence of the mysterious rank 1.

Lucian didn't care for the attention, simply going up to whatever stalls he wanted, ignoring the inquisitive eyes.

He gave me a slight wave which I returned briefly which caused some of the crowd to turn towards me.

Thankfully their gaze didn't last long as the 2nd ranker walked up to us with a silver haired girl in tow.

"You think that disguise is fooling anybody?"

Emma asked with a sneer.

"It was until you revealed it." Adam replied teasingly as he took off the mask and cap.

The crowd erupted into excited chatter about Adam as he gave some of the people who cried out his name a brief wave.

Clair who Emma had brought along was also star struck, Adam was her childhood hero after all.

Moments like these made me realize how lightly I took the influence the people I had met, the crowd kept at a distance though, many moving on after some time.

"Ajax?"

Clair noticed me near Adam and was pretty reasonably confused but Adam interrupted.

"Where's Markus?"

Clair, Emma and Markus had been friends since childhood, so they usually hung around each other, making up 3/5 members of the main cast.

"He's off doing Markus things, trying to recruit the guy who ranked number 5 in the exam."

"Number 5? Why not number 1 or even 4?"

Adam asked as he began to move, the crowd moving around him.

"Well number 1 is a mystery, too many eyes on him to make a move and number 4 is the son of a guild master in Czero, so naturally number 5."

Emma explained before adding.

"Although if the exam didn't focus so heavily on offense, he would have ranked higher."

"So, he's a support?" Adam asked.

"No, he's-"

The conversation was cut short as she spotted Markus in the distance, accompanying him was a figure about 7 foot tall, dwarfing even Adam.

"You don't need to continue that sentence, I can guess." He said as the two approached us.

An intimidating figure, incredibly tall and bulky with flame red hair and beard covering his face as two curved ox horns protruded from his head.

"Markus! Still hungry as ever to find recruits for your guild I see." Adam said as the young boy broke into a slight grin.

"I'm not recruiting them yet, just getting to know them." He said slyly.

"Ah yes, 'getting to know them' also known as bribery." Emma said sarcastically.

Clair and Adam laughed clearly being used to these antics.

"It's not bribery if it's legal." Markus said in his defense.

The seven-foot-tall giant seemed a bit awkward being introduced to the group in which case I could relate to him, I had no idea what I was doing here either.

"Right, sorry. This is Gabriel, he's a person I have not bribed in any way."

"He has bribed me in every way possible, but I don't really mind." The giant said with a laugh as he introduced himself.

"Mr. Adam, I'm a big fan, can't believe I'm actually getting to meet you like this." Gabriel said as he extended a handshake to Adam who took it with a smile.

"Please just call me Adam, if your talented enough to be scouted by this bastard, then we'll meet plenty."

Gabriel had a genuine smile on his face on hearing this, while his appearance made him seem much older than he was, he was just a kid meeting his hero.

Markus and the rest of the group then looked at me, no longer giving me the choice to avoid conversation.

'Fuck.'
