Her family were struggling until Micheal became their 'saviour'. This was the main reason Stella could never leave Micheal no matter how toxic he was. Still, the regular beating was getting too much as time passed. Even if Stella got a well paying job and decided to leave Micheal, he wouldn't let he do that easily. He had the influence and money to make her lose her job or do something worse to her. In a way, she was trapped and she had learned to accept it.
