As the Ghost began his new torture method, he grabbed the back of the Kazuto's neck.
If you want to see your wife, play along. he whispered as he shoved Kazuto's face into a barrel of gel.

Kazuto screamed in pain as the gel burned his skin. The guards winced and turned their backs. After about fifteen minutes, Kazuto passed out from the pain. The King walked in once again.
Everything here is in tip top shape. Keep torturing him until you get him to talk. Once he is ready, summon me. Oh, and tell Prince Zane to come find me once he comes around.
Once the King and his guards had left, the Ghost removed the Vaseline from Kazuto's face.

As Haede left, the Ghost, Kazuto and Zane all spoke. Zane explained that he had his suspicions about his father when he'd overheard him talking to his advisors about the New Ottawans. Zane explained that kidnapping Kazuto's wife was all a massive ploy to get the demons to attack New Ottawa, however, when the demons didn't attack, it left a rather big hole in the King's plans.
Kazuto explained that he had found Nolan adrift on some driftwood the day his wife was kidnapped. Nolan told him that there were others like him, others who would help his wife if they found her.
It seems your friend was right. You managed to kill the guards and escape with her undetected. Despite not having magic, your friend was sure you of all people could pull this off.
