Zou Jiayi's head perked up at the mention of his 'mate.' Before answering the Huo youngster directly, his scrutinising gaze studied the younger male's tense expression and the way he avoided direct eye contact with him.

"You look visibly upset," Zou Jiayi commented, using the index finger of his free hand to call Huo Renyi toward him. "I told you not to stand so far away when you're speaking to me."

Huo Renyi bowed his head as an apology, approaching the older male with a few steps. He crouched down but he still refused to look up at the former Celestial Hunter.

"Look at me," Zou Jiayi ordered, peering intensely into the fiery amber hue of the younger male's eyes when he finally looked up. "What happened? Why do you look so hurt?"
