Under Loki's surreptitious gaze, Laufey, the King of the Frost Giants who injured Frigga and also Loki's biological father, strode up to Odin with a dagger in hand, completely unobstructed. And Odin? He was still entrapped in the Odinsleep, lying there quietly, unable to respond.
"It is said that even so, you can still see and hear," Laufey remarked. "I hope that's true." "Because then you'll know that it was Laufey who killed you."
Forcefully prying open one of Odin's eyes and leaving behind a few words of triumphant pleasure, Laufey suddenly raised the dagger high and stabbed it down fiercely, intending to end Odin's life in one swift blow!
But at this critical moment, a blazing energy bolt shot out from the side, knocking Laufey to the ground.
Loki, wielding the Spear of Eternity, made a grand entrance, fittingly majestic. "And you," he hissed, "will die by the hand of Odin's son!"
With another flick of the Spear of Eternity, Loki delivered a final blow to the already severely injured Laufey. The poor King was backstabbed by his own son and was smashed to pieces.
It's not an exaggeration but a factual description—the severe beating reduced Laufey to ash, completely dissipating between heaven and earth.
"Loki!" Frigga exclaimed, rising from the ground and rushing to Loki's side, both shocked and overjoyed, "You've saved your father!"
Seeing the relieved and happy Frigga, Loki was thrilled beyond words. Step by step, he was regaining the love of his parents.
"Mother, I swear, they will pay for what they have done!" Loki assured her confidently.
"Loki, I'm glad your father is safe," replied Frigga, somewhat believing that Loki was just talking tough, for the Frost Giants are not easily dealt with—especially under the chaotic conditions in Asgard. Little did she know that her son had indeed made all the necessary preparations.
"Mother, leave everything to me!" Loki boasted confidently, "Take care of Father!"
After saying these words to Frigga, Loki left with the Spear of Eternity, his demeanor oozing with authority.
"Father, just wait a moment longer, I'm about to succeed," Loki whispered as he stood before the control center of the Bifrost, his eyes alight with excitement. The entire plan was going smoothly—as he had envisioned.
The preliminary work was done; all he had to do now was to use his hands slightly, and he could eradicate Jotunheim, achieving a feat even Thor couldn't manage.
As Loki reveled in his moment, he activated the Bifrost with a sword he had prepared, unleashing a brilliant beam of light that blasted onto Jotunheim, tearing the land asunder with the Rainbow Bridge's attack. The Bifrost has another function—the "Star-Destroying Cannon." It could easily obliterate a planet.
But just as Loki bathed in triumph, a voice full of surprise and anger arose, cutting through his daydreams. "Loki, what have you done?"
Odin woke up unexpectedly, before Loki could finish his plan. The All-Father was not in the mood for pleasantries; upon realizing Loki's intentions, his demeanor changed markedly.
"Do you realize what you're saying? Stop now!" Odin commanded.
"Why? Father? Why can't we do this? I'm doing this for you! For Asgard!" Loki's voice rose, filled with a sense of grievance.
"Silence! Have you forgotten all I've taught you?" Odin reproached his son more harshly than before. "You disappoint me as much as Thor does—more so, in fact. Thor wouldn't commit such absurdity!" Odin then moved to shut down the Bifrost, but soon realized that Loki had sabotaged it, making it impossible to close.
The youngest son inherited Frigga's magic and was very gifted in magic, but it's unfortunate that he didn't use it for good.
Odin was completely oblivious to the fact that Loki's face was ashen.
Had he sacrificed so much for Odin, only to be met with Odin's fury?
Was it simply because he wasn't as good as Thor?
Heh.
My dear father, it was wishful thinking on my part. No matter how well I did, I could never compare to your own flesh and blood!
After all, he is your birth son!
"I don't care what you've done; stop it right now!"
Odin shouted angrily at Loki once again.
"It's useless, Father. It won't stop until Jotunheim is crushed."
"Nobody can stop it, not even you!"
Loki's lips curled into a tragic smile as he shook his head repeatedly.
"Once this is dealt with, Loki, we need to have a serious talk."
Odin ignored Loki and continued to search for a way to interrupt the Bifrost.
In the end, he realized there was only one way to do it at this moment.
Destroy it!
Violently demolish it!
There was no other choice!
Odin decisively made his decision.
He reached out, and the Gungnir in Loki's hand automatically flew back to him.
Odin strode outside and stood on the Bifrost.
Without another word, he raised the Gungnir high.
"What are you doing, Father?"
"No, stop!"
Loki realized Odin's intention and charged toward him in an attempt to stop him.
Did Loki's painstaking effort mean nothing to Odin, who was now trying to stop him by hand?
Loki couldn't accept it.
But in such a critical moment, any further delay could mean the end of Jotunheim.
Odin, who had no time to consider his troublesome son's emotions, swung the Gungnir and thrust it into the Bifrost.
Boom!
A terrifying wave of energy surged forth, and the intense light swallowed everything.
Odin, worthy of the title King of the Gods, had strength beyond compare.
The Bifrost bridge, which Thor had struggled to break, was shattered by Odin in one blow.
When the light faded, the Bifrost was split in two.
A long fissure appeared before Odin.
As for Loki?
Just like in the original scenario, he couldn't withstand the immense force and was flung away.
Falling toward the endless abyss of the universe.
However, in the nick of time, Odin managed to catch his hand.
Father and son dangled from the broken bridge, swaying like a pendulum.
"Father, I could have done it!"
"For you!"
Loki looked up, his eyes locked on his father, pouring out his true feelings to Odin.
"No, Loki!"
Odin really had no idea how to teach his child, and even now, he was still denying Loki.
Loki's last shred of hope was extinguished.
All that remained was despair and utter desolation.
In this endless despair, Loki freed himself from Odin's grip and began to fall into the vast cosmic abyss.
"No, Loki!"
Odin's heart trembled violently as he called out weakly to Loki.
Even though Loki wasn't his biological son, Odin had always considered him as one of his own.
He was just more severe!
Especially in recent years, knowing his time was running out, he wanted his sons to grow up quickly and be independent.
But why had things reached this point?
...
The Avengers on another planet, of course, couldn't possibly know what was happening in Asgard.
Certainly, neither would Thor.
The God of Thunder still longed to lift his hammer and return to Asgard.
He could never have guessed that the Bifrost of Asgard was now broken and temporarily without the ability to transport!
Though Odin could still teleport using dark energy and other means, it certainly wasn't as convenient, was it?
"Thor!"
Distracted by his inability to lift his hammer, Thor's thoughts were interrupted as Nick Fury approached him.
He glanced at Thor, who looked disheartened sitting before the hammer, and shrugged, "Take your time. There's a saying here on Earth: haste makes waste. I wonder if you've heard of it."
"Perhaps I do need to think things through."
After some reflection, Thor nodded.
Even if Thor could be considered naive, after so many futile attempts and hit so many walls, he should understand that the hammer can't be lifted by sheer force alone.
He needed to earn the "worthiness" to do so.
But what exactly this "worthiness" was, Thor couldn't quite figure out at the moment.
"You've also seen the notebook; this is just temporary. You did manage to lift the hammer eventually, didn't you?"
"Moreover… if you need to, you can also talk to Rogers, get some advice from him."
"I think the Captain would be willing to share."
Nick Fury proposed this quite seriously to Thor.
But in reality, he was deliberately trying to win over Thor's loyalty.
How could the Captain pass on that knowledge when he himself had no idea how he managed to lift the hammer?
"Thank you for the offer, but I don't think it's necessary, I can do it myself."
Thor shook his head.
It was a joke, after all, he was the rightful owner of the hammer, and now he was supposed to get advice from an "unofficial" user?
That would be laughable.
"I believe that as well. It shouldn't be a problem for you."
Nick Fury nodded in agreement and smoothly changed the subject, "So, my visit this time isn't about the hammer."
"What is it about then?"
Thor turned and looked at Nick Fury curiously.
"The Avengers."
Nick Fury said emphatically.
Thor, as the holder of the notebook, already knew in advance that he was one of the Avengers.
And adding to the trust built through their recent battle side by side, Fury felt this was the best time.
After all, adding a god to his ranks was something that should be done as soon as possible.
Moreover, Thor wasn't someone from Earth and could return to Asgard at any time.
Wouldn't it be too late if he couldn't even find Thor then?
